00:09:11,200 --> 00:09:14,880
cold

182
00:09:12,800 --> 00:09:18,600
night well we better turn it up till

183
00:09:14,880 --> 00:09:18,600
daylight I look get more light on the

184
00:09:18,920 --> 00:09:25,680
scene go

185
00:09:21,120 --> 00:09:25,680
on keep the steady

186
00:09:27,920 --> 00:09:34,000
yeah oh this is no time for bathing oh

187
00:09:31,839 --> 00:09:36,000
on here we are wait a minute something

188
00:09:34,000 --> 00:09:38,720
has caught the foot all right well leave

189
00:09:36,000 --> 00:09:40,959
your foot behind go on I can't move it

190
00:09:38,720 --> 00:09:40,959
just a

191
00:09:41,839 --> 00:09:45,480
minute come on come

192
00:09:45,959 --> 00:09:52,079
on I've got it bless my soul so you have

193
00:09:50,680 --> 00:09:54,160
I thought I'd find it here well don't

194
00:09:52,079 --> 00:09:57,560
stand there bring it along come

195
00:09:54,160 --> 00:09:59,480
on give my hands I'll put it up here

196
00:09:57,560 --> 00:10:02,399
that's sir I had a feeling it was about

197
00:09:59,480 --> 00:10:06,680
when I fell over it yeah oh look here's

198
00:10:02,399 --> 00:10:08,880
Hercules hello here's a knife yeah that

199
00:10:06,680 --> 00:10:10,920
could have done it and if I'm not

200
00:10:08,880 --> 00:10:13,360
mistaken it's a leather workers KN I

201
00:10:10,920 --> 00:10:15,600
thought that oh maybe what's

202
00:10:13,360 --> 00:10:16,959
more whoever he is he bought the blades

203
00:10:15,600 --> 00:10:19,399
in Sheffield and fitted them to his own

204
00:10:16,959 --> 00:10:21,560
handles that's right why would he do

205
00:10:19,399 --> 00:10:23,120
that oh I don't know like to work with

206
00:10:21,560 --> 00:10:24,839
something odd I suppose like me choosing

207
00:10:23,120 --> 00:10:27,600
you for an

208
00:10:24,839 --> 00:10:29,399
assistant anyway it'll be easy to trace

209
00:10:27,600 --> 00:10:32,800
like a three cornered Cape or a t blue

210
00:10:29,399 --> 00:10:32,800
malicious I wonder what this

211
00:10:33,240 --> 00:10:40,079
is huh it's an attach Cas

212
00:10:36,880 --> 00:10:42,200

223
00:11:00,800 --> 00:11:04,399
the budget secrets in it but all the

224
00:11:02,560 --> 00:11:06,320

233
00:11:31,480 --> 00:11:35,079
intrusion sir a little matter of Lost

234
00:11:33,600 --> 00:11:37,519
Property that's very kind of you but I'm

235
00:11:35,079 --> 00:11:39,399
not aware your budget bag sir budget bag

236
00:11:37,519 --> 00:11:40,480
yes sir not rarely inspector I should

237
00:11:39,399 --> 00:11:41,800
thought a man from Scotland Yard would

238
00:11:40,480 --> 00:11:44,720
have done an official bag when he saw

239
00:11:41,800 --> 00:11:47,120
one there are bags within bags

240
00:11:44,720 --> 00:11:48,560
sir now sir what about that well that's

241
00:11:47,120 --> 00:11:50,320
my budget bag that's what I'm saying sir

242
00:11:48,560 --> 00:11:56,000
where'd you find it in the W hop The wsh

243
00:11:50,320 --> 00:11:56,000
Hop yes sir fantastic just a moment

244
00:12:07,320 --> 00:12:12,279
there's my bag go blind all early you

245
00:12:10,399 --> 00:12:14,680
really are inspector honley well I

246
00:12:12,279 --> 00:12:19,480
beginning to wonder myself sir would you

247
00:12:14,680 --> 00:12:19,480
mind opening it certain it

248
00:12:29,480 --> 00:12:35,000
anything missing sir nothing

249
00:12:32,000 --> 00:12:36,480
whatever I say it certainly is a

250
00:12:35,000 --> 00:12:38,600
remarkable

251
00:12:36,480 --> 00:12:41,279
imitation Dench have you any explanation

252
00:12:38,600 --> 00:12:43,000
of this I sir no just doesn't make sense

253
00:12:41,279 --> 00:12:44,800
to me why anyone should want to make a

254
00:12:43,000 --> 00:12:46,240
replica of my bag I simply cannot

255
00:12:44,800 --> 00:12:48,320
understand but they wouldn't have

256
00:12:46,240 --> 00:12:50,680
deceived me i' know that bag anywh is

257
00:12:48,320 --> 00:12:52,880
that your bag sir of course it is you're

258
00:12:50,680 --> 00:12:54,639
quite sure sir my dear inspector I may

259
00:12:52,880 --> 00:12:56,800
be only a politician but I can identify

260
00:12:54,639 --> 00:12:58,920
my own property how sir well but that

261
00:12:56,800 --> 00:13:00,720
stain for one thing it's tea I spilled

262
00:12:58,920 --> 00:13:02,440
some it this afternoon yes sir but

263
00:13:00,720 --> 00:13:05,560
that's the dad I mean the duplicate not

264
00:13:02,440 --> 00:13:08,800
this yes sir

265
00:13:05,560 --> 00:13:11,560
look it's

266
00:13:08,800 --> 00:13:15,160
astounding now sir where did you spill

267
00:13:11,560 --> 00:13:16,800
this tea the place called the fine are

268
00:13:15,160 --> 00:13:19,160
usually Dro in there on my way down here

269
00:13:16,800 --> 00:13:22,040
for a cup of tea each day I think I've

270
00:13:19,160 --> 00:13:23,360
got it someone had switched the bags

271
00:13:22,040 --> 00:13:25,040
when you were having your tea at the in

272
00:13:23,360 --> 00:13:27,000
the duplicate you have with you that

273
00:13:25,040 --> 00:13:28,320
accounts for the stain this but the real

274
00:13:27,000 --> 00:13:29,839
one where was that well you see sir the

275
00:13:28,320 --> 00:13:30,880
thief was having a look at the documents

276
00:13:29,839 --> 00:13:33,079
and when he learned all he wanted to

277
00:13:30,880 --> 00:13:34,480
know he returned your property in other

278
00:13:33,079 --> 00:13:37,839
words someone is in possession of the

279
00:13:34,480 --> 00:13:40,240
budget secrets I'm afraid so sir I don't

280
00:13:37,839 --> 00:13:42,160
like that inspector well I'm not exactly

281
00:13:40,240 --> 00:13:44,519
athetic myself but you realize how

282
00:13:42,160 --> 00:13:45,720
serious it is I make my speech the day

283
00:13:44,519 --> 00:13:47,880
after tomorrow and I can't change the

284
00:13:45,720 --> 00:13:50,160
budget you must find this man very good

285
00:13:47,880 --> 00:13:51,360
sir I'll go down to the pr in right away

286
00:13:50,160 --> 00:13:52,440
it might be a good idea if I go along

287
00:13:51,360 --> 00:13:53,800
with the inspector sir I'll be able to

288
00:13:52,440 --> 00:13:55,480
show him exactly where you were sitting

289
00:13:53,800 --> 00:13:57,199
excellent Mr D is my private secretary

290
00:13:55,480 --> 00:13:59,480
might be able to help you no doubt sir

291
00:13:57,199 --> 00:14:00,800
fine I'll get my head oh by the way sir

292
00:13:59,480 --> 00:14:02,079
was there any particular item in this

293
00:14:00,800 --> 00:14:04,240
budget which might make someone anxious

294
00:14:02,079 --> 00:14:05,720
get an early tip my good man one glance

295
00:14:04,240 --> 00:14:06,920
at those papers would enable anybody

296
00:14:05,720 --> 00:14:08,959
with a knowledge of Finance to make an

297
00:14:06,920 --> 00:14:10,160
enormous Fortune uhh at the same time he

298
00:14:08,959 --> 00:14:12,240
might do irreparable damage to this

299
00:14:10,160 --> 00:14:13,399
country's credit and banking systems

300
00:14:12,240 --> 00:14:14,600
well in that case I better get hold of

301
00:14:13,399 --> 00:14:17,240
him before he lays hands on my post

302
00:14:14,600 --> 00:14:18,920
office balance oh um have you any idea

303
00:14:17,240 --> 00:14:21,519
sir who could have substituted the

304
00:14:18,920 --> 00:14:23,079
article not in the least but it seems

305
00:14:21,519 --> 00:14:24,360
incredible to me that anybody should be

306
00:14:23,079 --> 00:14:26,880
allowed to rob the chancell of the ex

307
00:14:24,360 --> 00:14:29,720
cheer with impunity quite so s generally

308
00:14:26,880 --> 00:14:31,279
the other way around has

309
00:14:29,720 --> 00:14:33,880
let me speak to miss Gordon please oh

310
00:14:31,279 --> 00:14:35,279
hold on a minute is that for me no Mr

311
00:14:33,880 --> 00:14:40,399
Gordon it's for Miss

312
00:14:35,279 --> 00:14:41,600
an boyfriend I supp hello hello Peter I

313
00:14:40,399 --> 00:14:42,800
haven't time to explain now but the

314
00:14:41,600 --> 00:14:45,800
police are coming down to your place and

315
00:14:42,800 --> 00:14:47,920
I'll be with them all right yes I'll

316
00:14:45,800 --> 00:14:49,560
come in and play cards another evening

317
00:14:47,920 --> 00:14:51,279
right

318
00:14:49,560 --> 00:14:53,480
goodbye I'll with you in a moment

319
00:14:51,279 --> 00:14:55,600
inspector well hurry up then hello I

320
00:14:53,480 --> 00:14:58,040
wonder know what game he plays Sir

321
00:14:55,600 --> 00:15:01,160
Remy a Peter seems to be a man a few

322
00:14:58,040 --> 00:15:03,120
words I can't understand what he meant

323
00:15:01,160 --> 00:15:06,320
that's because he's a

324
00:15:03,120 --> 00:15:09,040
politician Bill M have you had any

325
00:15:06,320 --> 00:15:11,880
trouble with anyone lately is this just

326
00:15:09,040 --> 00:15:14,639
sisterly affection or curiosity but have

327
00:15:11,880 --> 00:15:16,639
you only with a bank manager he will

328
00:15:14,639 --> 00:15:19,759
look on an overdraft as an ordinary dead

329
00:15:16,639 --> 00:15:22,399
Bill I'm serious the police are on their

330
00:15:19,759 --> 00:15:24,399
way down how'd you know Peter's just

331
00:15:22,399 --> 00:15:28,360
told

332
00:15:24,399 --> 00:15:30,160
me did he say why no what can they want

333
00:15:28,360 --> 00:15:33,600
at this time

334
00:15:30,160 --> 00:15:35,240
night oh they probably want a drink are

335
00:15:33,600 --> 00:15:36,519
you sure it's nothing you've been doing

336
00:15:35,240 --> 00:15:39,959
why should it be me do I look like a

337
00:15:36,519 --> 00:15:41,360
criminal don't be silly only you have an

338
00:15:39,959 --> 00:15:43,959
unfortunate habit of getting yourself

339
00:15:41,360 --> 00:15:47,040
into Jam go on rake up everything I've

340
00:15:43,959 --> 00:15:47,040
ever done you make me

341
00:15:52,000 --> 00:15:58,199
tired am I intruding well I wouldn't

342
00:15:55,160 --> 00:16:00,000
exactly call it that I don't understand

343
00:15:58,199 --> 00:16:02,519
don't you well think it over you'll

344
00:16:00,000 --> 00:16:02,519
probably get my

345
00:16:03,680 --> 00:16:07,959
meaning is something the matter Miss

346
00:16:05,959 --> 00:16:10,839
Gordon no

347
00:16:07,959 --> 00:16:12,959
nothing did you once speak to me well I

348
00:16:10,839 --> 00:16:15,360
thought perhaps that I might be of some

349
00:16:12,959 --> 00:16:17,199
assistance it's very kind of you but

350
00:16:15,360 --> 00:16:19,920
really it isn't anything but if the

351
00:16:17,199 --> 00:16:22,360
police are coming down then you did hear

352
00:16:19,920 --> 00:16:24,680
what we were saying I happened to pick

353
00:16:22,360 --> 00:16:26,920
up the extension phone I couldn't help

354
00:16:24,680 --> 00:16:29,079
hearing what Mr DCH said would like be

355
00:16:26,920 --> 00:16:32,000
locking up Miss not yet Alfred were

356
00:16:29,079 --> 00:16:34,399
expecting the police the police and what

357
00:16:32,000 --> 00:16:36,399
are they after I don't know have you

358
00:16:34,399 --> 00:16:38,720
anything on your conscience near a thing

359
00:16:36,399 --> 00:16:40,680
miss when will they be here in a few

360
00:16:38,720 --> 00:16:43,040
minutes all right Miss I'll keep an eye

361
00:16:40,680 --> 00:16:43,040
out for

362
00:16:45,240 --> 00:16:48,680

were coming about she did not and I told

374
00:17:14,120 --> 00:17:17,120
her there was no knowing what the police

375
00:17:15,360 --> 00:17:18,199

376
00:17:17,120 --> 00:17:21,039

377
00:17:18,199 --> 00:17:23,799

378
00:17:21,039 --> 00:17:23,799

380
00:17:29,760 --> 00:17:34,280

381
00:17:31,919 --> 00:17:35,960
the Second Sight uh lots of us possess

382
00:17:34,280 --> 00:17:38,679
the gift nearly all the Savage races

383
00:17:35,960 --> 00:17:40,039
have it that's true what do you mean I

384
00:17:38,679 --> 00:17:42,240

385
00:17:40,039 --> 00:17:44,840
ex cheer and is heard miles away out

386
00:17:42,240 --> 00:17:47,160
here at the peasant in how could that

387
00:17:44,840 --> 00:17:48,919
happen look here inspector you don't

388
00:17:47,160 --> 00:17:50,440
have to waste any more time I telephone

389
00:17:48,919 --> 00:17:52,440
M Gordon well I don't want to seem

390
00:17:50,440 --> 00:17:54,000
inquisitive but I'd like to know why

391
00:17:52,440 --> 00:17:56,240
well she happens to be a friend of mine

392
00:17:54,000 --> 00:17:59,000
and I wanted to protect her Superfluous

393
00:17:56,240 --> 00:18:01,320
Mr DCH I'm no teror to the female sex

394
00:17:59,000 --> 00:18:01,320
that's

395
00:18:02,760 --> 00:18:08,280
right good evening good evening Miss and

396
00:18:06,000 --> 00:18:10,440
this is inspector horley Miss Gordon I

397
00:18:08,280 --> 00:18:11,520
must apologize for this late call Miss

398
00:18:10,440 --> 00:18:12,840
but I've come to investigate the

399
00:18:11,520 --> 00:18:15,200
stealing of the budget bag from the

400
00:18:12,840 --> 00:18:17,159
chancel of the exer this afternoon Peter

401
00:18:15,200 --> 00:18:19,320
is this true yes and the inspector

402
00:18:17,159 --> 00:18:22,120
believes that it took place here in the

403
00:18:19,320 --> 00:18:24,320
hotel but how could it happen well

404
00:18:22,120 --> 00:18:26,600
that's said I'm here to find up Miss are

405
00:18:24,320 --> 00:18:30,159
you the owner yes my brother's a sort of

406
00:18:26,600 --> 00:18:32,080
partner with me what s partner well he

407
00:18:30,159 --> 00:18:34,320
has other interests that keep him busy

408
00:18:32,080 --> 00:18:36,400
he's away from home quite a lot then you

409
00:18:34,320 --> 00:18:38,760
run the hotel yourself well miss Gordon

410
00:18:36,400 --> 00:18:42,080
has an experiened manager of Mr wit

411
00:18:38,760 --> 00:18:44,480
thank you were you here this afternoon

412
00:18:42,080 --> 00:18:46,280
yes did you happen to notice some tea

413
00:18:44,480 --> 00:18:48,080
spilled on the Chancellor's begag

414
00:18:46,280 --> 00:18:49,799
everybody did he was quite upset about

415
00:18:48,080 --> 00:18:52,280
it I suppose you don't remember where he

416
00:18:49,799 --> 00:18:55,840
was sitting do you yes I do I'll show

417
00:18:52,280 --> 00:18:55,840
you thank you

418
00:19:02,880 --> 00:19:07,080
this was the table wasn't it Peter mhm

419
00:19:05,200 --> 00:19:08,679
Mr whts came in with the chancellor and

420
00:19:07,080 --> 00:19:11,640
then went away would you mind Tak in the

421
00:19:08,679 --> 00:19:11,640
same chair as the chancelor

422
00:19:14,080 --> 00:19:20,559
used he sat here and I said opposite I

423
00:19:17,240 --> 00:19:22,760
see Sergeant give Mr Den the budget bag

424
00:19:20,559 --> 00:19:25,400
right sir you might place it in the same

425
00:19:22,760 --> 00:19:25,400
spot it was this

426
00:19:26,320 --> 00:19:30,080
afternoon that's about right as far as I

427
00:19:28,360 --> 00:19:31,039
remember were there many people in the

428
00:19:30,080 --> 00:19:33,919
room at the

429
00:19:31,039 --> 00:19:35,360
time about a dozen I suppose nobody sat

430
00:19:33,919 --> 00:19:41,799
anywhere near us

431
00:19:35,360 --> 00:19:44,280
except except who Bill Mr Gordon he sat

432
00:19:41,799 --> 00:19:46,520
there I'll remember

433
00:19:44,280 --> 00:19:48,720
that but surely the chancellor wasn't

434
00:19:46,520 --> 00:19:52,240
wearing his coat at the table no he took

435
00:19:48,720 --> 00:19:55,039
it off before what about his

436
00:19:52,240 --> 00:19:56,840
hat where did you take his coat off why

437
00:19:55,039 --> 00:20:00,159
out in the hall I'd like to see the

438
00:19:56,840 --> 00:20:00,159
exact spot

439
00:20:06,240 --> 00:20:09,120
and the charer always carried the bag

440
00:20:07,600 --> 00:20:12,000
himself that's right yeah did you happen

441
00:20:09,120 --> 00:20:12,000
to notice but was

442
00:20:13,520 --> 00:20:17,480
got was over there where Alfred is

443
00:20:15,720 --> 00:20:19,640
standing now that the chancellor took

444
00:20:17,480 --> 00:20:23,120
off his cat oh yeah but would you mind

445
00:20:19,640 --> 00:20:27,080
showing me exactly what he did all

446
00:20:23,120 --> 00:20:28,320
right now then we came in together I

447
00:20:27,080 --> 00:20:30,360
stepped over to that side of the table

448
00:20:28,320 --> 00:20:33,520
to speak to wits the chancellor moved

449
00:20:30,360 --> 00:20:37,039
over here and gave his bag to the

450
00:20:33,520 --> 00:20:40,280
porter then he took off his

451
00:20:37,039 --> 00:20:42,000
coat the porter gave him back the bag

452
00:20:40,280 --> 00:20:44,280
and we went into the dining room that

453
00:20:42,000 --> 00:20:46,360
right Porter quite right sir only it

454
00:20:44,280 --> 00:20:49,520
wasn't me it is me assistant and

455
00:20:46,360 --> 00:20:52,640
understudy so to speak Henry his name is

456
00:20:49,520 --> 00:20:54,720
Henry that's the man um um you're uh

457
00:20:52,640 --> 00:20:57,080
colleague so to speak that's right sir

458
00:20:54,720 --> 00:20:59,480
Yus makes a dart at the important people

459
00:20:57,080 --> 00:21:03,760
beat you to the tip eh where does he

460
00:20:59,480 --> 00:21:03,760
make his do from where else but

461
00:21:03,880 --> 00:21:08,919
there what about that door where ises

462
00:21:06,640 --> 00:21:10,320
that lead do it doesn't lead anywhere

463
00:21:08,919 --> 00:21:14,080
it's just a covered where Henry does be

464
00:21:10,320 --> 00:21:14,080
keeping his brooms and brushes

465
00:21:30,480 --> 00:21:34,200
do you happen to know where Henry is now

466
00:21:32,320 --> 00:21:35,559
I do not all I know is I'm doing his

467
00:21:34,200 --> 00:21:37,880
work then he doesn't live on the

468
00:21:35,559 --> 00:21:39,279
premises oh yes he does but every night

469
00:21:37,880 --> 00:21:41,320
since Sunday he's gone up to his

470
00:21:39,279 --> 00:21:43,000
sister's place in London with Mr

471
00:21:41,320 --> 00:21:45,120
whitten's permission where is his

472
00:21:43,000 --> 00:21:47,760
sister's place sure I don't know but

473
00:21:45,120 --> 00:21:49,799
it's somewhere in London Miss Gordon did

474
00:21:47,760 --> 00:21:52,279
m i take a look at this man Henry's room

475
00:21:49,799 --> 00:21:55,360
not at all alfit will show you the way

476
00:21:52,279 --> 00:21:56,760
thank you this way inspector oh um take

477
00:21:55,360 --> 00:22:00,520
the budget back to the car we'll leave

478
00:21:56,760 --> 00:22:00,520
with the driver right

479
00:22:08,120 --> 00:22:11,919
who are you well I'm not the UN deporter

480
00:22:10,240 --> 00:22:13,360
and I take it the same applies to you oh

481
00:22:11,919 --> 00:22:15,520
Mr whitens this is one of the inspectors

482
00:22:13,360 --> 00:22:17,559
from Scotland Yard the manager of the

483
00:22:15,520 --> 00:22:19,000
place may I ask what you want up here

484
00:22:17,559 --> 00:22:20,279
sure hasn't the chancellor the ex

485
00:22:19,000 --> 00:22:22,039
chocker lost his little bag full of

486
00:22:20,279 --> 00:22:23,960
taxes but he sent this gentleman to find

487
00:22:22,039 --> 00:22:25,919
it for him beond the Porter's bedroom is

488
00:22:23,960 --> 00:22:28,159
rather a curious place to look about as

489
00:22:25,919 --> 00:22:30,559
curious as finding the manager un it why

490
00:22:28,159 --> 00:22:32,760
are you the it as well I'm just going to

491
00:22:30,559 --> 00:22:34,320
lock up the petrol pump inspector

492
00:22:32,760 --> 00:22:36,840
there's been a lot of petrol stealing

493
00:22:34,320 --> 00:22:38,120
from cars and pumps around here and we

494
00:22:36,840 --> 00:22:40,039
like to assist the police in the

495
00:22:38,120 --> 00:22:42,120
prevention of crime a very laudable

496
00:22:40,039 --> 00:22:43,200
attitude Mr whittens but perhaps you

497
00:22:42,120 --> 00:22:45,200
wouldn't mind answering your a few

498
00:22:43,200 --> 00:22:47,640
questions I have no objection to helping

499
00:22:45,200 --> 00:22:50,279
the forces of the law how long has Henry

500
00:22:47,640 --> 00:22:52,320
been here about 6 months did you engage

501
00:22:50,279 --> 00:22:54,559
him I'm the manager of this hotel so

502
00:22:52,320 --> 00:22:57,640
naturally I engaged the servants referen

503
00:22:54,559 --> 00:22:59,200
is all right they satisfied me no doubt

504
00:22:57,640 --> 00:23:04,760
I think that'll be all wit don't let me

505
00:22:59,200 --> 00:23:04,760
keep him pure petrol pump oh yes of

506
00:23:06,120 --> 00:23:10,679
course smart businessman your manager

507
00:23:09,440 --> 00:23:12,080
keeps an eye on everything I should

508
00:23:10,679 --> 00:23:13,559
think if you mean he's one of them

509
00:23:12,080 --> 00:23:15,360
fellas that does be snooping all over

510
00:23:13,559 --> 00:23:17,440
the place hoping to catch you on the hul

511
00:23:15,360 --> 00:23:20,559
then you're right will this get you into

512
00:23:17,440 --> 00:23:22,600
trouble I don't think so they can't

513
00:23:20,559 --> 00:23:25,880
possibly think I'm involved I didn't

514
00:23:22,600 --> 00:23:27,159
mean that I was thinking of your job toy

515
00:23:25,880 --> 00:23:29,320
don't worry about that the main thing is

516
00:23:27,159 --> 00:23:30,440
to keep you out of it

517
00:23:29,320 --> 00:23:32,480
do you know anything about what Henry

518
00:23:30,440 --> 00:23:36,400
does in his spare time div a thing he's

519
00:23:32,480 --> 00:23:36,400
never the one to talk a lot

520
00:23:37,600 --> 00:23:42,880
ah that seems to settle it do you mean

521
00:23:40,679 --> 00:23:44,480
Henry done it what will I say to him

522
00:23:42,880 --> 00:23:46,000
when he comes back when do you expect

523
00:23:44,480 --> 00:23:47,159
him back he knows if he isn't back in

524
00:23:46,000 --> 00:23:48,600
time for the boots and knives at the

525
00:23:47,159 --> 00:23:50,320

00:25:47,200 --> 00:25:51,760
curtains do you have to be in a dark to

545
00:25:49,240 --> 00:25:53,320
do that it helps you see you can tell

546
00:25:51,760 --> 00:25:55,279
what sort the material is by looking at

547
00:25:53,320 --> 00:25:57,600
the light through it well it looks

548
00:25:55,279 --> 00:26:00,080
pretty thin to me thick or thin there's

549
00:25:57,600 --> 00:26:01,559
nothing I don't know about textiles I

550
00:26:00,080 --> 00:26:03,840
can closee you from the Cradle to the

551
00:26:01,559 --> 00:26:05,360
Grave sir oh could you well you're a bit

552
00:26:03,840 --> 00:26:06,360
late for the first and a bit premature

553
00:26:05,360 --> 00:26:08,960
for the

554
00:26:06,360 --> 00:26:10,919
second oh here inspector come here and

555
00:26:08,960 --> 00:26:13,520
look at what I found good evening sir

556
00:26:10,919 --> 00:26:15,279
good evening who's the sergeant well he

557
00:26:13,520 --> 00:26:17,440
says he's a traveling representative of

558
00:26:15,279 --> 00:26:19,279
the textile industry and in my opinion

559
00:26:17,440 --> 00:26:21,480
he's pretty strong in Fabrications your

560
00:26:19,279 --> 00:26:23,200
sparing partner doubts my bone ofid sir

561
00:26:21,480 --> 00:26:25,080
and who wouldn't I found him cing behind

562
00:26:23,200 --> 00:26:26,720
the curtains I feel perfectly certain

563
00:26:25,080 --> 00:26:29,600
inspector horley will be satisfied with

564
00:26:26,720 --> 00:26:31,720
my explanation how do you know know my

565
00:26:29,600 --> 00:26:34,440
name well I must have seen you before

566
00:26:31,720 --> 00:26:36,399
sir and I always remember faces even

567
00:26:34,440 --> 00:26:39,240
ordinary ones evidently you don't

568
00:26:36,399 --> 00:26:41,200
remember me I always go on the M that

569
00:26:39,240 --> 00:26:43,600
some things are best forgotten even if

570
00:26:41,200 --> 00:26:45,840
they can't be forgiven are you staying

571
00:26:43,600 --> 00:26:48,120
in this hotel yes as a matter of fact

572
00:26:45,840 --> 00:26:50,840
I'm hoping to have a few words with Mr

573
00:26:48,120 --> 00:26:53,000
Gordon where is Mr Gordon in the bar

574
00:26:50,840 --> 00:26:55,159
inspector I'll take you along thank you

575
00:26:53,000 --> 00:26:56,399
it isn't necessary I never had any

576
00:26:55,159 --> 00:26:58,600
difficulty in finding my way to a bar

577
00:26:56,399 --> 00:26:59,919
yet that's right yeah you try and get

578
00:26:58,600 --> 00:27:01,919
some interesting facts on the textile

579
00:26:59,919 --> 00:27:06,039
trade they'll look well in your notebook

580
00:27:01,919 --> 00:27:06,039
I will sir I'm just dying to interrogate

581
00:27:08,159 --> 00:27:13,240
him hello am I right in supposing all

582
00:27:11,480 --> 00:27:15,640
the gentlemen from Scotland Yard quite

583
00:27:13,240 --> 00:27:17,919
right sir you're Mr Gordon I presume

584
00:27:15,640 --> 00:27:19,240
that's right if I didn't know you come

585
00:27:17,919 --> 00:27:21,080
about the budget bag I'd take you for

586
00:27:19,240 --> 00:27:22,480
one of the vice squad well I hope it

587
00:27:21,080 --> 00:27:24,720
isn't familiarity that caus you to make

588
00:27:22,480 --> 00:27:27,320
that error but how did you know I came

589
00:27:24,720 --> 00:27:29,720
about the budget bag Mr Den has tell me

590
00:27:27,320 --> 00:27:32,080
an accents of Statesman like Gloom my

591
00:27:29,720 --> 00:27:33,440
sister in tremulous terms and Mr

592
00:27:32,080 --> 00:27:35,520
whitten's Been flapping around like an

593
00:27:33,440 --> 00:27:37,799
old hen and in fact you're the only one

594
00:27:35,520 --> 00:27:39,159
that doesn't care exactly inspector I

595
00:27:37,799 --> 00:27:40,919
made so little money in the past year

596
00:27:39,159 --> 00:27:43,799
the budget doesn't mean a thing to me I

597
00:27:40,919 --> 00:27:45,480
congratulate you nazza if you could

598
00:27:43,799 --> 00:27:46,919
spare a minute from this game of chance

599
00:27:45,480 --> 00:27:49,840
skill

600
00:27:46,919 --> 00:27:51,519
inspector look I'm home yeah but the

601
00:27:49,840 --> 00:27:54,720
point is were you at home all the

602
00:27:51,519 --> 00:27:57,399
evening no inspector I wasn't I took my

603
00:27:54,720 --> 00:27:59,880
sister up to town she went to see some

604
00:27:57,399 --> 00:28:01,200
friends and and what do you think I did

605
00:27:59,880 --> 00:28:03,279
I wouldn't like to say it I went to a

606
00:28:01,200 --> 00:28:06,039
show a variety

607
00:28:03,279 --> 00:28:08,320
show there's the kind of part of my

608
00:28:06,039 --> 00:28:10,240
ticket that's the perfect alabar isn't

609
00:28:08,320 --> 00:28:13,200
it yeah it would be if this ticket came

610
00:28:10,240 --> 00:28:15,120
out of a Time Clock which it

611
00:28:13,200 --> 00:28:16,640
doesn't have you asked our very

612
00:28:15,120 --> 00:28:19,240
efficient manager Mr whittens how you

613
00:28:16,640 --> 00:28:21,840
spent it evening all in good time cuz

614
00:28:19,240 --> 00:28:24,399
when you do ask him who he took up to

615
00:28:21,840 --> 00:28:25,919
London with him right we'll go and ask

616
00:28:24,399 --> 00:28:28,919
him nothing will give me greater

617
00:28:25,919 --> 00:28:28,919
pleasure

618
00:28:29,200 --> 00:28:32,440
excuse me inspector but it's getting

619
00:28:30,399 --> 00:28:34,640
very late can you tell us how long this

620
00:28:32,440 --> 00:28:35,919
investigation is likely to last well the

621
00:28:34,640 --> 00:28:37,880
chancellor speech is the day after

622
00:28:35,919 --> 00:28:40,600
tomorrow but if you'll answer me one

623
00:28:37,880 --> 00:28:42,399
question we'll call it today go on did

624
00:28:40,600 --> 00:28:45,679
you drive someone to town

625
00:28:42,399 --> 00:28:48,000
tonight as a matter of fact I did who

626
00:28:45,679 --> 00:28:49,679
Henry I picked him up outside the hotel

627
00:28:48,000 --> 00:28:52,200
and gave him a lift I dropped him in

628
00:28:49,679 --> 00:28:53,320
Oxford Circus and that's all and I

629
00:28:52,200 --> 00:28:55,120
suppose you've got half a dozen

630
00:28:53,320 --> 00:28:57,320
Witnesses who saw him get out and walk

631
00:28:55,120 --> 00:28:59,679
away at least 50 people must have seen

632
00:28:57,320 --> 00:29:03,159
him but they don't know it and I don't

633
00:28:59,679 --> 00:29:05,559
know them was he carrying a suitcase yes

634
00:29:03,159 --> 00:29:08,200
an old brown one that seems to settle it

635
00:29:05,559 --> 00:29:10,200
well now I kept you all up pretty late

636
00:29:08,200 --> 00:29:11,960
and it's only fair to tell you why

637
00:29:10,200 --> 00:29:14,240
Sergeant Bingham I want you to help me

638
00:29:11,960 --> 00:29:16,240
to demonstrate all right nothing like a

639
00:29:14,240 --> 00:29:18,799
good

640
00:29:16,240 --> 00:29:20,760
reconstruction now get over there

641
00:29:18,799 --> 00:29:21,720
will now you can be the chancellor of

642
00:29:20,760 --> 00:29:24,559
the ex

643
00:29:21,720 --> 00:29:25,960
Checker now according to Mr DCH the

644
00:29:24,559 --> 00:29:27,559
chancellor came into the hotel this

645
00:29:25,960 --> 00:29:28,679
afternoon with a budget bag in his left

646
00:29:27,559 --> 00:29:29,960
hand

647
00:29:28,679 --> 00:29:33,640
no no no

648
00:29:29,960 --> 00:29:36,559
left he handed the bag to the

649
00:29:33,640 --> 00:29:39,159
Porter and as he turned to take off his

650
00:29:36,559 --> 00:29:41,760
coat the porter placed the bag down here

651
00:29:39,159 --> 00:29:44,120
behind this umbrella stand after taking

652
00:29:41,760 --> 00:29:45,640
the coat the porter produced a duplicate

653
00:29:44,120 --> 00:29:48,120
bag from here which he had already

654
00:29:45,640 --> 00:29:50,399
planted and handed it to the chancelor

655
00:29:48,120 --> 00:29:51,640
who went into the dining room go on go

656
00:29:50,399 --> 00:29:54,399
on go

657
00:29:51,640 --> 00:29:56,440
on Henry then slipped into the cupboard

658
00:29:54,399 --> 00:29:58,559
with a real bag where he made notes on

659
00:29:56,440 --> 00:30:00,600
the budget and when the chance returned

660
00:29:58,559 --> 00:30:03,000
from the dining room he gave him back

661
00:30:00,600 --> 00:30:04,880
the real bag having reversed the whole

662
00:30:03,000 --> 00:30:07,000
process fa and it's like one of their

663
00:30:04,880 --> 00:30:09,919
mediums at a cc to see you do it keep

664
00:30:07,000 --> 00:30:12,080
quiet Alfred you know Mr wits if you had

665
00:30:09,919 --> 00:30:13,640
x-ray eyes instead of ordinary ones

666
00:30:12,080 --> 00:30:14,919
you'd have seen the duplicate bag inside

667
00:30:13,640 --> 00:30:16,880
that old suitcase of Henry when you

668
00:30:14,919 --> 00:30:19,760
drove him to town congratulations

669
00:30:16,880 --> 00:30:22,159
inspector so the mystery is unraveled

670
00:30:19,760 --> 00:30:23,399
I'm sorry to say it didn't sir you see

671
00:30:22,159 --> 00:30:25,760
Henry wasn't the type of man who could

672
00:30:23,399 --> 00:30:27,600
plan a crime like this he must have been

673
00:30:25,760 --> 00:30:30,760
acting for someone else someone who

674
00:30:27,600 --> 00:30:33,399
needed money pretty badly or someone who

675
00:30:30,760 --> 00:30:35,240
saw an opportunity of making big money

676
00:30:33,399 --> 00:30:37,799
or again someone who needed money to get

677
00:30:35,240 --> 00:30:40,120
on in the world but whoever he was he

678
00:30:37,799 --> 00:30:42,799
was a man of Education who could

679
00:30:40,120 --> 00:30:44,640
organize and plan every detail I don't

680
00:30:42,799 --> 00:30:46,919
want to teach you your job in inspector

681
00:30:44,640 --> 00:30:48,519
oh I'm always ready to learn it seems to

682
00:30:46,919 --> 00:30:50,120
me you should find Henry and get the

683
00:30:48,519 --> 00:30:53,080
truth from him I'm afraid that's

684
00:30:50,120 --> 00:30:55,440
impossible why because Henry was

685
00:30:53,080 --> 00:30:57,639
murdered had a few minutes out for 8:00

686
00:30:55,440 --> 00:31:00,159
this evening now this isn't what you

687
00:30:57,639 --> 00:31:02,120
might call all a pleasant sight but it's

688
00:31:00,159 --> 00:31:05,200
the knife that killed

689
00:31:02,120 --> 00:31:07,159
Henry has anyone ever seen it or one

690
00:31:05,200 --> 00:31:09,519
like it before

691
00:31:07,159 --> 00:31:12,799
no oh well I didn't expect any other

692
00:31:09,519 --> 00:31:14,679
answer Mr dych would you mind driving me

693
00:31:12,799 --> 00:31:18,159
back by the Chancellor's

694
00:31:14,679 --> 00:31:20,200
house certainly Sergeant get back to the

695
00:31:18,159 --> 00:31:21,679
yard in the car put this in the bag and

696
00:31:20,200 --> 00:31:23,240
hand a whole lot over the fingerprints

697
00:31:21,679 --> 00:31:24,159
later and look sh about it tell him I

698
00:31:23,240 --> 00:31:27,519
want to report first thing in the

699
00:31:24,159 --> 00:31:29,080
morning yes sir good night Miss Gordon

700
00:31:27,519 --> 00:31:31,639
good night

701
00:31:29,080 --> 00:31:32,559
I expect we should meet again very soon

702
00:31:31,639 --> 00:31:35,399
good

703
00:31:32,559 --> 00:31:37,519
night it's a funny thing the first time

704
00:31:35,399 --> 00:31:39,080
I'm given a car to myself and it breaks

705
00:31:37,519 --> 00:31:41,320
down well I can't think what's wrong

706
00:31:39,080 --> 00:31:43,120
with it the any petrol oh I filled up

707
00:31:41,320 --> 00:31:46,320
before we left the yard never mind look

708
00:31:43,120 --> 00:31:49,039
and see I know I took on 10

709
00:31:46,320 --> 00:31:51,519
gallons me it's empty it's what Sergeant

710
00:31:49,039 --> 00:31:53,720

748
00:35:43,400 --> 00:35:49,160
it's a clue is it and who Do You Think

749
00:35:46,359 --> 00:35:51,520
You Are Charlie Chan I'm Sergeant

750
00:35:49,160 --> 00:35:54,000
Bingham of the CID an attempt has been

751
00:35:51,520 --> 00:35:59,040
made in my life and as usual the man in

752
00:35:54,000 --> 00:36:02,480
uniform turns up too late is that so

753
00:35:59,040 --> 00:36:02,480
you'll hear more about this in the

754
00:36:02,839 --> 00:36:06,520
morning and so will

755
00:36:25,800 --> 00:36:29,920
I go on

756
00:36:28,640 --> 00:36:33,200
say

757
00:36:29,920 --> 00:36:36,359
it see what you're thinking there aren't

758
00:36:33,200 --> 00:36:39,839
any words for it not in any

759
00:36:36,359 --> 00:36:42,560
language very sorry Spector you

760
00:36:39,839 --> 00:36:44,680
pestiferous elongated flat-footed balded

761
00:36:42,560 --> 00:36:46,079
bunch of haggus why didn't you st on

762
00:36:44,680 --> 00:36:47,839
your own native heat tossing the spawn

763
00:36:46,079 --> 00:36:49,240
and wacking your Toms instead of

764
00:36:47,839 --> 00:36:51,400
unloading yourself on the longsuffering

765
00:36:49,240 --> 00:36:54,200
English bite that off at the root and he

766
00:36:51,400 --> 00:36:57,680
couldn't hurt me more no thanks I'm a

767
00:36:54,200 --> 00:36:59,480
vegetarian well what happened well I was

768
00:36:57,680 --> 00:37:02,000
I was wandering down the alley as blight

769
00:36:59,480 --> 00:37:04,680
as a whe Ark and all of a sudden it

770
00:37:02,000 --> 00:37:07,160
seemed that b nous up and hit me then

771
00:37:04,680 --> 00:37:10,079
all I remember is three ladies in white

772
00:37:07,160 --> 00:37:13,319
singing old long sign any idea who

773
00:37:10,079 --> 00:37:16,400
attack you no but I've got a find clue

774
00:37:13,319 --> 00:37:18,520
what fingerprints under that awning no a

775
00:37:16,400 --> 00:37:19,839
button I found it beside me when I woke

776
00:37:18,520 --> 00:37:21,400
up now all I've got to do is to find the

777
00:37:19,839 --> 00:37:24,160
owner and you can SE it back on his coat

778
00:37:21,400 --> 00:37:26,839
I know but what were you doing in that

779
00:37:24,160 --> 00:37:27,920
alley well it's a long story but if

780
00:37:26,839 --> 00:37:30,240
you'll only be patient that can

781
00:37:27,920 --> 00:37:32,599
reconstruct the whole Curr oh R but how

782
00:37:30,240 --> 00:37:35,280
was that to know they'd follow me how

783
00:37:32,599 --> 00:37:36,880
now listen when I was a sergeant Sir

784
00:37:35,280 --> 00:37:40,560
George S who was then Chief commissioner

785
00:37:36,880 --> 00:37:42,839
said to me my boy you're going to go far

786
00:37:40,560 --> 00:37:45,319
now why do you think he said that I

787
00:37:42,839 --> 00:37:47,000
don't know he's one of the lunacy

788
00:37:45,319 --> 00:37:50,960
Commissioners Now isn't he what do you

789
00:37:47,000 --> 00:37:53,800
mean nothing I was only thinking aloud

790
00:37:50,960 --> 00:37:55,280
you think don't make me laugh if you

791
00:37:53,800 --> 00:37:57,240
were a stamp You' be a perfectly

792
00:37:55,280 --> 00:37:59,119
forunate with a fake postmark and no gum

793
00:37:57,240 --> 00:38:01,800
I swap you for a cigarette card well I

794
00:37:59,119 --> 00:38:04,160
never thought you'd be so hard me hard

795
00:38:01,800 --> 00:38:06,400
you wake you here from

796
00:38:04,160 --> 00:38:08,160
upstairs the chief superintendent likely

797
00:38:06,400 --> 00:38:10,560
to be very angry no no no you just give

798
00:38:08,160 --> 00:38:12,480
your a great big hug and a kiss bless my

799
00:38:10,560 --> 00:38:14,119
soul you throw away the duplicate bag

800
00:38:12,480 --> 00:38:16,240
our one and only piece of evidence I've

801
00:38:14,119 --> 00:38:18,000
still got the statue surely they must

802
00:38:16,240 --> 00:38:20,880
have found some fingerprints on it yes a

803
00:38:18,000 --> 00:38:22,880
complete selection of yours on the merry

804
00:38:20,880 --> 00:38:25,160
thought well what's the use of fighting

805
00:38:22,880 --> 00:38:27,119
against fate here am I trying to do my

806
00:38:25,160 --> 00:38:30,200
duty and all I get is my head cracked

807
00:38:27,119 --> 00:38:32,000
and my good name smatched well the chief

808
00:38:30,200 --> 00:38:34,640
can't hurt me more well that'll depend

809
00:38:32,000 --> 00:38:36,760
on me you jeopardized your whole career

810
00:38:34,640 --> 00:38:39,440
my boy and if the chief super didn't

811
00:38:36,760 --> 00:38:39,440
feed out of my

812
00:38:39,800 --> 00:38:44,079
hand what's that about the chief

813
00:38:41,960 --> 00:38:45,400
superintendent with all due Defence sir

814
00:38:44,079 --> 00:38:47,760
I was just describing your method

815
00:38:45,400 --> 00:38:51,040
Sergeant Bingham and I was telling Ving

816
00:38:47,760 --> 00:38:56,240
report yes sir I'm afraid we've lost

817
00:38:51,040 --> 00:38:57,960
that duplicate bag you what lost it good

818
00:38:56,240 --> 00:38:59,119
Heavens man how how

819
00:38:57,960 --> 00:39:01,640
well

820
00:38:59,119 --> 00:39:03,040
sir in a manner of speaking it was my

821
00:39:01,640 --> 00:39:05,079
fault well come to the point man' was it

822
00:39:03,040 --> 00:39:07,599
or was it not your fault you see sir I

823
00:39:05,079 --> 00:39:09,560
was too trust him well I allowed

824
00:39:07,599 --> 00:39:13,560
Sergeant Bingham to bring up that bag by

825
00:39:09,560 --> 00:39:13,560
himself and he was savagely

826
00:39:14,160 --> 00:39:17,200
attacked you've been long enough in the

827
00:39:15,960 --> 00:39:19,000
force hornly to know that if you want a

828
00:39:17,200 --> 00:39:20,599
thing done you must do it yourself and

829
00:39:19,000 --> 00:39:24,240
not leave it to a simple

830
00:39:20,599 --> 00:39:27,720
Scott oh there tears badly hurt Sergeant

831
00:39:24,240 --> 00:39:30,440
oh I can carry on said you would said it

832
00:39:27,720 --> 00:39:31,880
may have been partly my fault I wouldn't

833
00:39:30,440 --> 00:39:33,880
like you to blame the inspector

834
00:39:31,880 --> 00:39:35,520
altogether no it's very nice if you

835
00:39:33,880 --> 00:39:37,520
Sergeant still I'm AF AR mistake the

836
00:39:35,520 --> 00:39:38,920
blame if it's my responsibility well

837
00:39:37,520 --> 00:39:40,560
never mind whose fault it is the point

838
00:39:38,920 --> 00:39:42,400
is the chancellor makes his speech

839
00:39:40,560 --> 00:39:44,480
tomorrow and before he gets up in the

840
00:39:42,400 --> 00:39:47,800
house we've got to find the murderer

841
00:39:44,480 --> 00:39:49,000
tomorrow yes can you do it well if I

842
00:39:47,800 --> 00:39:51,839
could guarantee that sir I'd be Chief

843
00:39:49,000 --> 00:39:55,200
superintendent myself still I can

844
00:39:51,839 --> 00:39:59,319
try Mr wit to see inspector horley sir

845
00:39:55,200 --> 00:39:59,319
all right I'm just going bring me

846
00:39:59,560 --> 00:40:03,200
so don't let bigam do too much till he's

847
00:40:01,480 --> 00:40:06,440
all right in the head don't you worry

848
00:40:03,200 --> 00:40:08,599
sir I'll look after him well you you

849
00:40:06,440 --> 00:40:10,920
certainly did me a good turn there let

850
00:40:08,599 --> 00:40:13,040
be the corpse my boy what' you say

851
00:40:10,920 --> 00:40:16,560
French for the old school

852
00:40:13,040 --> 00:40:18,560
tie good morning inspector good morning

853
00:40:16,560 --> 00:40:20,200
what can I do for you I may be able to

854
00:40:18,560 --> 00:40:23,640
be of assistance well I could do with

855
00:40:20,200 --> 00:40:26,880
some sit down will you thank

856
00:40:23,640 --> 00:40:29,640
you what I'm about to say might give you

857
00:40:26,880 --> 00:40:31,560
a wrong impr impr ah I see you know

858
00:40:29,640 --> 00:40:33,480
something about someone that's right but

859
00:40:31,560 --> 00:40:37,480
I wouldn't like you to think I never do

860
00:40:33,480 --> 00:40:39,359
go on well about 3 weeks ago I was asked

861
00:40:37,480 --> 00:40:41,280
if I knew the name of any leather worker

862
00:40:39,359 --> 00:40:44,119
who was good at his job but in a small

863
00:40:41,280 --> 00:40:47,400
way of business who asked you I hardly

864
00:40:44,119 --> 00:40:48,880
like to tell you I see you come all the

865
00:40:47,400 --> 00:40:50,760
way from the in to tell me you hardly

866
00:40:48,880 --> 00:40:52,480
like to tell me well I'm afraid you

867
00:40:50,760 --> 00:40:54,400
might think I'd a personal bias against

868
00:40:52,480 --> 00:40:57,359
this man you wor about that I won't

869
00:40:54,400 --> 00:40:59,200
consider the point well

870
00:40:57,359 --> 00:41:01,800
it was Mr

871
00:40:59,200 --> 00:41:04,280
Dench was it

872
00:41:01,800 --> 00:41:06,440
indeed did he give me reason he said he

873
00:41:04,280 --> 00:41:09,119
wanted the budget bag repaired where did

874
00:41:06,440 --> 00:41:10,920
you send him a man called Parkinson 104

875
00:41:09,119 --> 00:41:13,119
Shepherd's Market nothing wrong with

876
00:41:10,920 --> 00:41:15,240
your memory is that I thought you might

877
00:41:13,119 --> 00:41:17,160
be doubtful about my story so I brought

878
00:41:15,240 --> 00:41:19,119
along Alfred he heard Dench ask me

879
00:41:17,160 --> 00:41:21,480
that's very thoughtful of you you

880
00:41:19,119 --> 00:41:23,040
corroborate this statement yes sir Mr wi

881
00:41:21,480 --> 00:41:24,839
told me I had to come along but I hope

882
00:41:23,040 --> 00:41:27,839
I'm not getting Mr DCH into a hole no no

883
00:41:24,839 --> 00:41:29,359
no nice gent Mr DCH isn't he very s has

884
00:41:27,839 --> 00:41:31,359
a certain affection for Miss an I

885
00:41:29,359 --> 00:41:33,240
believe yes sir well I can't say I blame

886
00:41:31,359 --> 00:41:34,520
him well gentlemen if you have nothing

887
00:41:33,240 --> 00:41:36,520
further to say I won't detain you any

888
00:41:34,520 --> 00:41:39,240
longer I can tell you where Mr DCH lives

889
00:41:36,520 --> 00:41:41,440
don't bother I already know Bingham show

890
00:41:39,240 --> 00:41:43,440
these two gentlemen out I hope I've done

891
00:41:41,440 --> 00:41:49,079
the right thing you've done all I would

892
00:41:43,440 --> 00:41:49,079
have expected of you Mr wittens good day

893
00:42:02,400 --> 00:42:06,760
good morning sir and what can I do for

894
00:42:07,480 --> 00:42:10,920
you well if that's the best act you can

895
00:42:09,680 --> 00:42:12,640
put on when somebody comes in we'll all

896
00:42:10,920 --> 00:42:14,359
be booked to appear at the O biley why

897
00:42:12,640 --> 00:42:16,920
did you do it why did you have to do

898
00:42:14,359 --> 00:42:18,960
that what are you talking about Henry

899
00:42:16,920 --> 00:42:20,800
it's in the papers you don't think I had

900
00:42:18,960 --> 00:42:23,319
anything to do with that do you it's

901
00:42:20,800 --> 00:42:26,720
awful he's dead I

902
00:42:23,319 --> 00:42:28,880
know well I'm just as upset as you are

903
00:42:26,720 --> 00:42:31,240
after was one of us that's what

904
00:42:28,880 --> 00:42:32,400
frightens me suppose the police find out

905
00:42:31,240 --> 00:42:34,720
the police won't find out anything

906
00:42:32,400 --> 00:42:37,160
unless you start talking you swore that

907
00:42:34,720 --> 00:42:40,240
nothing could go wrong nothing has gone

908
00:42:37,160 --> 00:42:41,920
wrong as far as we are concerned yes but

909
00:42:40,240 --> 00:42:43,960
suppose they get on to us don't you

910
00:42:41,920 --> 00:42:45,520
think we ought to tell the police tell

911
00:42:43,960 --> 00:42:47,079
them our story first before they find

912
00:42:45,520 --> 00:42:49,119
out now

913
00:42:47,079 --> 00:42:52,240
listen if you go to the police you'll

914
00:42:49,119 --> 00:42:55,240
only to go once do

915
00:42:52,240 --> 00:42:57,720
understand yes

916
00:42:55,240 --> 00:42:59,800
good well I must have seen around here

917
00:42:57,720 --> 00:43:01,119
if the police come just behave like a

918
00:42:59,800 --> 00:43:03,930
fool who knows

919
00:43:01,119 --> 00:43:07,239
nothing it ought to be

920
00:43:03,930 --> 00:43:07,239
[Music]

921
00:43:07,480 --> 00:43:12,920
easy why don't you go away for a

922
00:43:10,240 --> 00:43:14,230
holiday holiday might be good for your

923
00:43:12,920 --> 00:43:21,359
health

924
00:43:14,230 --> 00:43:21,359
[Music]

925
00:43:31,010 --> 00:43:35,039
[Music]

926
00:43:36,670 --> 00:43:39,809
[Applause]

927
00:43:41,760 --> 00:43:50,800
White Hall 1 21

928
00:43:44,950 --> 00:43:53,280
[Music]

929
00:43:50,800 --> 00:43:56,640
2 come

930
00:43:53,280 --> 00:43:58,480
in good morning Mr DCH oh good morning

931
00:43:56,640 --> 00:44:00,520
inspector

932
00:43:58,480 --> 00:44:02,359
you're about early oh we don't call this

933
00:44:00,520 --> 00:44:04,880
early over the yard sir tell me is there

934
00:44:02,359 --> 00:44:06,160
any news no not yet but there one or two

935
00:44:04,880 --> 00:44:07,720
things I'd like to ask you if you don't

936
00:44:06,160 --> 00:44:09,599
mind certainly won't you sit down thank

937
00:44:07,720 --> 00:44:10,920
you sir I'm sorry to trouble you but

938
00:44:09,599 --> 00:44:12,839
it's rather important to get all the

939
00:44:10,920 --> 00:44:16,359
facts and there's something I want to

940
00:44:12,839 --> 00:44:18,960
check up on about this budget bag oh yes

941
00:44:16,359 --> 00:44:21,880
I understand you had a repaired lately

942
00:44:18,960 --> 00:44:23,079
as a matter of fact I did why well you

943
00:44:21,880 --> 00:44:25,280
didn't think of mentioning it last night

944
00:44:23,079 --> 00:44:26,400
did you well that was a month ago never

945
00:44:25,280 --> 00:44:29,319
occurred to me to have any connection

946
00:44:26,400 --> 00:44:31,680
with last night there it's a clue Mr DCH

947
00:44:29,319 --> 00:44:33,599
and clues are what we are looking for

948
00:44:31,680 --> 00:44:36,400
yes of course tell me how did you find

949
00:44:33,599 --> 00:44:37,640
out by listing some of your friends are

950
00:44:36,400 --> 00:44:39,720
so fond to you they can't stop talking

951
00:44:37,640 --> 00:44:42,119
about you well they certainly haven't

952
00:44:39,720 --> 00:44:45,599
wasted any time about it cigarette no

953
00:44:42,119 --> 00:44:45,599
thank you you don't mind if I do by all

954
00:44:46,359 --> 00:44:51,960
means

955
00:44:48,440 --> 00:44:54,079
Tom nice girl that Miss Gordon oh yes

956
00:44:51,960 --> 00:44:55,960
very I understand you and she hope to

957
00:44:54,079 --> 00:44:57,200
get married one day well I really don't

958
00:44:55,960 --> 00:44:59,079
see what my marriage has to do to do

959
00:44:57,200 --> 00:45:00,559
with the budget no don't you the

960
00:44:59,079 --> 00:45:02,319
budget's got quite a lot to do with

961
00:45:00,559 --> 00:45:04,559
metamon for instance they make an

962
00:45:02,319 --> 00:45:08,000
allowance for a wife don't they and then

963
00:45:04,559 --> 00:45:09,520
there's the um the little ones well

964
00:45:08,000 --> 00:45:12,079
that's very kind of you to take so much

965
00:45:09,520 --> 00:45:15,559
interest in my future oh under my

966
00:45:12,079 --> 00:45:15,559
somewhat rugged exterior

967
00:45:17,559 --> 00:45:21,520
there's there's quite a lot of

968
00:45:21,800 --> 00:45:26,800
romance getting married soon when I'm in

969
00:45:24,599 --> 00:45:29,040
a position too and very sensible too if

970
00:45:26,800 --> 00:45:30,079
I'm I say so gives you a motive to get

971
00:45:29,040 --> 00:45:32,280
on doesn't

972
00:45:30,079 --> 00:45:33,720
it I suppose you know quite a lot of

973
00:45:32,280 --> 00:45:37,760
people who are well up in the financial

974
00:45:33,720 --> 00:45:39,440
world yes of course now listen inspector

975
00:45:37,760 --> 00:45:40,880
it must be obvious to a man of your

976
00:45:39,440 --> 00:45:43,040
intelligence that I wouldn't go to the

977
00:45:40,880 --> 00:45:44,760
in to steal the budget Secrets why there

978
00:45:43,040 --> 00:45:46,880
at my El every day in the Chancellor's

979
00:45:44,760 --> 00:45:49,359
house you know it's a funny thing but

980
00:45:46,880 --> 00:45:51,000
whenever I arrest a man for a crime he

981
00:45:49,359 --> 00:45:52,640
always starts by telling me a dozen ways

982
00:45:51,000 --> 00:45:54,160
he could have done it and never by any

983
00:45:52,640 --> 00:45:56,760
chance of the way it was done are you

984
00:45:54,160 --> 00:45:59,240
going to arrest me Y is silly of course

985
00:45:56,760 --> 00:46:00,520
not I wouldn't dream of such a thing all

986
00:45:59,240 --> 00:46:04,319
the same I'd like you to come along with

987
00:46:00,520 --> 00:46:09,400
me where to to this Mr Parkinson he'll

988
00:46:04,319 --> 00:46:13,720
be glad to see an old customer oh very

989
00:46:09,400 --> 00:46:16,720
[Music]

990
00:46:13,720 --> 00:46:19,720
well

991
00:46:16,720 --> 00:46:19,720
shop

992
00:46:20,720 --> 00:46:25,280
customers seems to be a strike in the

993
00:46:22,720 --> 00:46:28,640
leather business or a lock out maybe

994
00:46:25,280 --> 00:46:28,640
he's not in

995
00:46:28,680 --> 00:46:35,729
oy anyone at home nobody

996
00:46:32,570 --> 00:46:35,729
[Music]

997
00:46:37,040 --> 00:46:41,920
here Hy

998
00:46:38,960 --> 00:46:46,200
smell wonder what it is cheese oh no

999
00:46:41,920 --> 00:46:48,720
it's not I know it's later

1000
00:46:46,200 --> 00:46:51,400
cool well did you find anything only the

1001
00:46:48,720 --> 00:46:53,880
Mr Parkinson isn't in his bar is that

1002
00:46:51,400 --> 00:46:57,920
the bathroom yeah C man speaking yeah

1003
00:46:53,880 --> 00:47:01,079
you better go and hello that's funny

1004
00:46:57,920 --> 00:47:02,119
what look at that well what about it

1005
00:47:01,079 --> 00:47:04,599
well at least we know that he left

1006
00:47:02,119 --> 00:47:08,240
suddenly gu what I was thinking how do

1007
00:47:04,599 --> 00:47:10,200
you know wait left this off the hook

1008
00:47:08,240 --> 00:47:12,240
hello

1009
00:47:10,200 --> 00:47:14,920
hello go

1010
00:47:12,240 --> 00:47:18,200
away hello is

1011
00:47:14,920 --> 00:47:21,680
exchange yes I know how long has the

1012
00:47:18,200 --> 00:47:21,680
receiver been off insector

1013
00:47:24,400 --> 00:47:31,480
quick G laar Roa what have you done now

1014
00:47:28,079 --> 00:47:31,480
I opened this door and he fell into the

1015
00:47:44,079 --> 00:47:49,119
room why did you come in here I was

1016
00:47:46,800 --> 00:47:51,280
looking for Parkinson you found him all

1017
00:47:49,119 --> 00:47:52,760
right you don't suppose I'd be mad

1018
00:47:51,280 --> 00:47:54,760
enough to kill a man with a couple of

1019
00:47:52,760 --> 00:47:58,839
detectives at my elbow do you don't ask

1020
00:47:54,760 --> 00:48:00,599
me I'm only a policemen that's right

1021
00:47:58,839 --> 00:48:01,960
ever seen anything like this before the

1022
00:48:00,599 --> 00:48:03,119
other man was killed with a knife like

1023
00:48:01,960 --> 00:48:04,960
that how do you know it isn't the very

1024
00:48:03,119 --> 00:48:06,079
same knife that killed Henry well I

1025
00:48:04,960 --> 00:48:08,000
hardly think the inspector would have

1026
00:48:06,079 --> 00:48:09,720
given it back to the murderer besides

1027
00:48:08,000 --> 00:48:12,920
every knife on that bench is exactly the

1028
00:48:09,720 --> 00:48:15,000
same you seem to know all the answers

1029
00:48:12,920 --> 00:48:20,040
have you been in here before no only in

1030
00:48:15,000 --> 00:48:20,040
the shop take care will you

1031
00:48:31,680 --> 00:48:36,559
H oh gosh what a way to treat money well

1032
00:48:35,160 --> 00:48:39,119
I've heard of a Chap's income being cut

1033
00:48:36,559 --> 00:48:40,920
but never quite like this anyway they're

1034
00:48:39,119 --> 00:48:43,800
teners so they should be easily traced

1035
00:48:40,920 --> 00:48:46,079
bring them find out where they came from

1036
00:48:43,800 --> 00:48:47,960
right I've traced the notes inspector

1037
00:48:46,079 --> 00:48:50,240
they were issu to Michael kavos 200

1038
00:48:47,960 --> 00:48:52,839
portal plate you're coming up my boy

1039
00:48:50,240 --> 00:48:54,839
we'll make a c over here yet thank you

1040
00:48:52,839 --> 00:48:55,799
very much very nice of you to see so

1041
00:48:54,839 --> 00:48:57,240
it'll be interesed to make the

1042
00:48:55,799 --> 00:48:59,440
acquaintance with this Mr

1043
00:48:57,240 --> 00:49:01,520
kavos I'd let to know why his hobby is

1044
00:48:59,440 --> 00:49:03,880
carving up Bank

1045
00:49:01,520 --> 00:49:05,680
notes you have had quite a lot of money

1046
00:49:03,880 --> 00:49:07,960
from me already you know well I'm not

1047
00:49:05,680 --> 00:49:09,920
asking for a lot more no I want enough

1048
00:49:07,960 --> 00:49:12,559
to clear out of this confounded country

1049
00:49:09,920 --> 00:49:14,520
oh look here Gordon I'm a financier a

1050
00:49:12,559 --> 00:49:17,880
Speculator if you like but not an

1051
00:49:14,520 --> 00:49:20,480
exporter particularly of unwanted Goods

1052
00:49:17,880 --> 00:49:22,400
this is as much in your interest as mine

1053
00:49:20,480 --> 00:49:24,960
how can that be well if I get into a jam

1054
00:49:22,400 --> 00:49:27,359
you'll be right alongside me

1055
00:49:24,960 --> 00:49:29,240
cooking I was wondering who when you

1056
00:49:27,359 --> 00:49:31,559
would say that no I'm not threatening

1057
00:49:29,240 --> 00:49:33,680
you you are not because I hold all the

1058
00:49:31,559 --> 00:49:35,920
cards yes you forget one thing we're in

1059
00:49:33,680 --> 00:49:38,000
this deal together you are wrong you had

1060
00:49:35,920 --> 00:49:41,000
an idea you brought it to me it was a

1061
00:49:38,000 --> 00:49:44,200
foolish idea that did not work but it

1062
00:49:41,000 --> 00:49:45,559
was your idea Mr God not mine you have

1063
00:49:44,200 --> 00:49:48,319
quite a time making the police believe

1064
00:49:45,559 --> 00:49:52,599
that the police I'm not afraid of your

1065
00:49:48,319 --> 00:49:54,599
English police I like them too

1066
00:49:52,599 --> 00:49:57,920
much come

1067
00:49:54,599 --> 00:49:58,920
in inspector horley of Scotland Yard to

1068
00:49:57,920 --> 00:50:02,520
see you

1069
00:49:58,920 --> 00:50:03,559
sir what is this what did you tell him I

1070
00:50:02,520 --> 00:50:05,359
never even mentioned your name you must

1071
00:50:03,559 --> 00:50:09,240
be here for something

1072
00:50:05,359 --> 00:50:13,000
else let him come in yes

1073
00:50:09,240 --> 00:50:13,000
sir get in the room

1074
00:50:16,839 --> 00:50:22,040
quick inspector horley and Sergeant

1075
00:50:19,559 --> 00:50:23,599
Bingham sir good afternoon Mr kavos good

1076
00:50:22,040 --> 00:50:25,839
afternoon inspector this is an

1077
00:50:23,599 --> 00:50:27,960
unexpected pleasure I have never met

1078
00:50:25,839 --> 00:50:29,160
anyone from Scot in the yard yet well if

1079
00:50:27,960 --> 00:50:31,119
I had known that I'd brought along the

1080
00:50:29,160 --> 00:50:32,119
chief commissioner as it is I'm afraid

1081
00:50:31,119 --> 00:50:35,160
you'll had to put up with Sergeant

1082
00:50:32,119 --> 00:50:37,240
Bingham how did you Sergeant I often see

1083
00:50:35,160 --> 00:50:39,960
how much I like the English police

1084
00:50:37,240 --> 00:50:41,720
British he's a foreigner sir like you

1085
00:50:39,960 --> 00:50:43,160
well now after all these little

1086
00:50:41,720 --> 00:50:45,319
pleasantries what about getting down to

1087
00:50:43,160 --> 00:50:47,760
business well gentlemen would you like

1088
00:50:45,319 --> 00:50:50,520
to have a drink indubitably just but not

1089
00:50:47,760 --> 00:50:52,520
just now oh well won't you sit down no

1090
00:50:50,520 --> 00:50:55,880
thank you sir I will give you a minute

1091
00:50:52,520 --> 00:50:58,680
now sir you're a financier I believe

1092
00:50:55,880 --> 00:51:00,680
well in my own small way yes you invest

1093
00:50:58,680 --> 00:51:02,839
money in all sorts of stocks and shares

1094
00:51:00,680 --> 00:51:06,920
don't you yes all sorts of stocks and

1095
00:51:02,839 --> 00:51:10,640
shares and commodities wheat oil rubber

1096
00:51:06,920 --> 00:51:13,720
copper yes yeah and

1097
00:51:10,640 --> 00:51:15,160
leather I bet your pardon I don't quite

1098
00:51:13,720 --> 00:51:17,799
understand it's quite a simple question

1099
00:51:15,160 --> 00:51:20,640
isn't it have you had any dealings with

1100
00:51:17,799 --> 00:51:23,920
a Mr Alexander Parkinson of 104

1101
00:51:20,640 --> 00:51:27,400
Shepherd's Market Alexander

1102
00:51:23,920 --> 00:51:30,160
Parkinson I don't think so

1103
00:51:27,400 --> 00:51:32,480
why because he was murdered a couple of

1104
00:51:30,160 --> 00:51:32,480
hours

1105
00:51:33,119 --> 00:51:38,400
ago I feel to see how that can concern

1106
00:51:35,920 --> 00:51:41,079
me and I take it you didn't know him I

1107
00:51:38,400 --> 00:51:44,160
never heard of him in my life and it may

1108
00:51:41,079 --> 00:51:46,480
surprise you to know that £200 in Bank

1109
00:51:44,160 --> 00:51:49,160
notes was found on him why should it

1110
00:51:46,480 --> 00:51:50,920
surprise me because those notes were

1111
00:51:49,160 --> 00:51:53,280
issued to you a month ago by the

1112
00:51:50,920 --> 00:51:55,799
southern County Bank oh that might well

1113
00:51:53,280 --> 00:51:57,880
be I have many dealings you know in the

1114
00:51:55,799 --> 00:52:00,319
ca of a month and I could have paid them

1115
00:51:57,880 --> 00:52:02,640
to one of 20 people would keep a record

1116
00:52:00,319 --> 00:52:05,400
of the Numbers Never I am perhaps what

1117
00:52:02,640 --> 00:52:08,240
you call a bit careless about money

1118
00:52:05,400 --> 00:52:10,160
prodigal I call it however here are the

1119
00:52:08,240 --> 00:52:14,079
notes and perhaps you'll observe that

1120
00:52:10,160 --> 00:52:15,920
they've been torn in half how odd I

1121
00:52:14,079 --> 00:52:19,520
cannot think of a reason for doing such

1122
00:52:15,920 --> 00:52:22,040
a stupid thing can't you I can it would

1123
00:52:19,520 --> 00:52:25,000
interest me to know I prefer to tell my

1124
00:52:22,040 --> 00:52:27,480
bedtime stories to a judge and jury I'm

1125
00:52:25,000 --> 00:52:29,440
afraid I won't be there to hear you

1126
00:52:27,480 --> 00:52:31,160
that's a Pity still if you change your

1127
00:52:29,440 --> 00:52:33,480
mind I'll be happy to reserve you a seat

1128
00:52:31,160 --> 00:52:35,119
it's very kind of you inspector I'm

1129
00:52:33,480 --> 00:52:37,920
sorry I could not give you more

1130
00:52:35,119 --> 00:52:39,599
information don't you worry Mr kavos you

1131
00:52:37,920 --> 00:52:43,200
given me quite a lot thank you very much

1132
00:52:39,599 --> 00:52:43,200
good day good day

1133
00:52:47,790 --> 00:52:52,680
[Music]

1134
00:52:50,000 --> 00:52:54,480
inspector you've heard what he said yes

1135
00:52:52,680 --> 00:52:56,960
every word how you found out all that in

1136
00:52:54,480 --> 00:52:59,000
the time defeats me did you know that

1137
00:52:56,960 --> 00:53:02,839
Parkinson has been murdered no more than

1138
00:52:59,000 --> 00:53:05,400
you what do you mean just this that if

1139
00:53:02,839 --> 00:53:06,839
I'm innocent then so are you but if they

1140
00:53:05,400 --> 00:53:08,720
pin it on me there'll be two of us in

1141
00:53:06,839 --> 00:53:11,640
the

1142
00:53:08,720 --> 00:53:14,720
dog it's just possible that for once you

1143
00:53:11,640 --> 00:53:15,920
are right what do you want what I asked

1144
00:53:14,720 --> 00:53:18,160
for before give me some money and I'll

1145
00:53:15,920 --> 00:53:18,160
care

1146
00:53:22,319 --> 00:53:26,920
out you don't expect me to get very far

1147
00:53:24,640 --> 00:53:28,559
do you I have no more treasure in I

1148
00:53:26,920 --> 00:53:31,240
shall not give you Bank notes that

1149
00:53:28,559 --> 00:53:32,400
inspector horley can trace when do you

1150
00:53:31,240 --> 00:53:35,680
start tomorrow morning I've got to

1151
00:53:32,400 --> 00:53:39,760
settle things up with an Gordon does she

1152
00:53:35,680 --> 00:53:39,760
know anything no and she's not going to

1153
00:53:55,440 --> 00:53:59,440
either for

1154
00:54:34,960 --> 00:54:40,119
any luck inspector do I look as if I've

1155
00:54:36,720 --> 00:54:41,559
been lucky blind all R what a day did

1156
00:54:40,119 --> 00:54:44,359
you get anything of the stock exchange

1157
00:54:41,559 --> 00:54:46,359
only a lot of stories I can't repeat but

1158
00:54:44,359 --> 00:54:48,119
I found out one thing what's that

1159
00:54:46,359 --> 00:54:50,280
there's been no unusual speculation

1160
00:54:48,119 --> 00:54:51,839
there that means the thief is afraid to

1161
00:54:50,280 --> 00:54:53,280
use his knowledge well that's one

1162
00:54:51,839 --> 00:54:54,440
feather in our caps well you can stick

1163
00:54:53,280 --> 00:54:57,720
your feather where you like what I want

1164
00:54:54,440 --> 00:54:57,720
is the murderer

1165
00:55:01,880 --> 00:55:08,400
hello yes inspector only is

1166
00:55:05,960 --> 00:55:11,599
here what you

1167
00:55:08,400 --> 00:55:14,200
say the fs are

1168
00:55:11,599 --> 00:55:16,079
in hey wait a minute here's the

1169
00:55:14,200 --> 00:55:18,720
inspector

1170
00:55:16,079 --> 00:55:22,280
hello

1171
00:55:18,720 --> 00:55:24,599
hello they cut off what did they say he

1172
00:55:22,280 --> 00:55:27,960
ask if you are here I tell him yes he

1173
00:55:24,599 --> 00:55:32,319
say you come down fanty is in and you

1174
00:55:27,960 --> 00:55:34,200
are going to be very interested so H

1175
00:55:32,319 --> 00:55:37,039
Singham this maybe what we're looking

1176
00:55:34,200 --> 00:55:37,039
for come

1177
00:55:48,799 --> 00:55:54,200
on hello you kind to bid me a fond

1178
00:55:51,200 --> 00:55:57,000
farewell I didn't know you were going

1179
00:55:54,200 --> 00:55:58,200
away it's a sudden decision isn't

1180
00:55:57,000 --> 00:56:00,520
no I've been thinking about it for some

1181
00:55:58,200 --> 00:56:02,839
time I get bored if I stopping one place

1182
00:56:00,520 --> 00:56:04,760
too long now let me see I've left

1183
00:56:02,839 --> 00:56:08,280
something out I can't think what to do

1184
00:56:04,760 --> 00:56:11,440
this hello where you no that isn't mine

1185
00:56:08,280 --> 00:56:14,960
it's got your initials on the other

1186
00:56:11,440 --> 00:56:17,280
side oh so it has found it from moment I

1187
00:56:14,960 --> 00:56:20,760
thought it wasn't mine where did you get

1188
00:56:17,280 --> 00:56:23,319
it I found it oh where in Parkinson's

1189
00:56:20,760 --> 00:56:24,599
shop what it was on the bench where he

1190
00:56:23,319 --> 00:56:26,799
keeps his

1191
00:56:24,599 --> 00:56:28,400
knives well that's not bad even for a

1192
00:56:26,799 --> 00:56:30,160
politician this isn't a joke Bill and

1193
00:56:28,400 --> 00:56:32,160
I'm not laughing were you in Parkinson's

1194
00:56:30,160 --> 00:56:33,920
shop today no I wasn't what should I be

1195
00:56:32,160 --> 00:56:35,880
doing in Parkinson's shop do you know

1196
00:56:33,920 --> 00:56:38,920
he's been murdered

1197
00:56:35,880 --> 00:56:41,240
yes and tell me after you telep her how

1198
00:56:38,920 --> 00:56:43,640
did your lighter get there I don't know

1199
00:56:41,240 --> 00:56:46,079
I've been looking for it matter of fact

1200
00:56:43,640 --> 00:56:47,960
I've been using matches if I were you

1201
00:56:46,079 --> 00:56:50,000
Bill I'd go to the police right away oh

1202
00:56:47,960 --> 00:56:51,880
why Hy knew first thing this morning

1203
00:56:50,000 --> 00:56:53,559
that I'd had the budget bag repaired at

1204
00:56:51,880 --> 00:56:54,720
Parkinson's how long do you think it's

1205
00:56:53,559 --> 00:56:57,079
going to take him to find out that you

1206
00:56:54,720 --> 00:56:58,599
were there I should tell him first and I

1207
00:56:57,079 --> 00:57:01,160
tell you I've never been near that place

1208
00:56:58,599 --> 00:57:03,400
Bill you've told too many lies to an for

1209
00:57:01,160 --> 00:57:06,160
me to believe you that Li to proves

1210
00:57:03,400 --> 00:57:07,640
something doesn't it yes you're right if

1211
00:57:06,160 --> 00:57:09,000
what you say could possibly be true it

1212
00:57:07,640 --> 00:57:11,400
proves that you're an accessory after

1213
00:57:09,000 --> 00:57:12,680
the fact of murder on your own showing

1214
00:57:11,400 --> 00:57:14,440
you've withheld important evidence from

1215
00:57:12,680 --> 00:57:17,680
the police only because I don't believe

1216
00:57:14,440 --> 00:57:18,839
you murdered Parkinson oh thanks and

1217
00:57:17,680 --> 00:57:20,520
just how did you arrive at that

1218
00:57:18,839 --> 00:57:23,319
charitable decision because you haven't

1219
00:57:20,520 --> 00:57:24,720
the nerve you can cheat and lie and brag

1220
00:57:23,319 --> 00:57:26,839
about your wonderful get-rich quick

1221
00:57:24,720 --> 00:57:29,160
schemes but killing a man is another

1222
00:57:26,839 --> 00:57:30,400
thing you wouldn't risk your neck well

1223
00:57:29,160 --> 00:57:31,559
if you're so certain I didn't do it why

1224
00:57:30,400 --> 00:57:33,240
didn't you go ahead and hand the lighter

1225
00:57:31,559 --> 00:57:36,319
over the

1226
00:57:33,240 --> 00:57:37,960
hornly oh I knew just why you didn't and

1227
00:57:36,319 --> 00:57:39,440
you're too deep for me all right give it

1228
00:57:37,960 --> 00:57:40,599
to me and I'll take it to him oh no if

1229
00:57:39,440 --> 00:57:43,160
there's any dealing with horley I'll do

1230
00:57:40,599 --> 00:57:45,839
it myself one is quite certain I'm not

1231
00:57:43,160 --> 00:57:48,520
going away I'm safe here when I can see

1232
00:57:45,839 --> 00:57:51,119
what's going on Bill what are you two

1233
00:57:48,520 --> 00:57:53,160
arguing about we weren't arguing as a

1234
00:57:51,119 --> 00:57:54,319
matter of fact I was just tanking Peter

1235
00:57:53,160 --> 00:57:56,720
you found my lighter last night and

1236
00:57:54,319 --> 00:58:01,599
brought it along didn't you

1237
00:57:56,720 --> 00:58:01,599
Peter yes I brought it

1238
00:58:02,680 --> 00:58:06,960
along Phil what's happened what's

1239
00:58:05,079 --> 00:58:08,440
happened well Henry's been murdered and

1240
00:58:06,960 --> 00:58:10,359
so is Parkinson and the budget bag's

1241
00:58:08,440 --> 00:58:12,280
been stolen isn't that enough there's

1242
00:58:10,359 --> 00:58:14,799
not a reason for you and Peter to

1243
00:58:12,280 --> 00:58:16,920
quarrel or is it well ask your boyfriend

1244
00:58:14,799 --> 00:58:18,079
neither of you believe a word I say ask

1245
00:58:16,920 --> 00:58:19,880
him what's happened perhaps you believe

1246
00:58:18,079 --> 00:58:21,319
his version and they get out of here

1247
00:58:19,880 --> 00:58:24,880
I've got enough to put up with as it is

1248
00:58:21,319 --> 00:58:24,880
go on get out

1249
00:58:34,079 --> 00:58:37,119
good evening sir where is Mr Gordon he's

1250
00:58:35,839 --> 00:58:39,319
up in his room sir will I tell him you

1251
00:58:37,119 --> 00:58:42,720
want him no just show me to his room but

1252
00:58:39,319 --> 00:58:42,720
who very good

1253
00:58:50,559 --> 00:58:56,760
sir this is his room sir what name Will

1254
00:58:52,920 --> 00:58:56,760
I say never mind

1255
00:58:59,599 --> 00:59:03,160
what are you doing here you do not want

1256
00:59:01,400 --> 00:59:04,400
to see me well you've always said it was

1257
00:59:03,160 --> 00:59:06,160
dangerous to you to come down here why I

1258
00:59:04,400 --> 00:59:08,280
choose now of all times I've heard you

1259
00:59:06,160 --> 00:59:11,000
changed your mind and decided to stay at

1260
00:59:08,280 --> 00:59:14,280
home who told you that a friend I didn't

1261
00:59:11,000 --> 00:59:15,799
know you had one you must leave at once

1262
00:59:14,280 --> 00:59:18,400
and I suppose your friend thinks that

1263
00:59:15,799 --> 00:59:20,960
too what he thinks is nothing it is what

1264
00:59:18,400 --> 00:59:23,280
I say well for the present I stay right

1265
00:59:20,960 --> 00:59:23,280
when I

1266
00:59:23,839 --> 00:59:29,319
am Gordon I'm thinking for you more good

1267
00:59:27,280 --> 00:59:30,920
it is better that you go whenever you

1268
00:59:29,319 --> 00:59:33,200
start thinking of anybody but yourself I

1269
00:59:30,920 --> 00:59:36,680
begin to wonder why the reason is very

1270
00:59:33,200 --> 00:59:38,799
simple the police will come again and I

1271
00:59:36,680 --> 00:59:41,400
do not like inspector

1272
00:59:38,799 --> 00:59:44,160
horley that's funny I've taken quite a

1273
00:59:41,400 --> 00:59:46,280
fancy to him in fact I'm thinking having

1274
00:59:44,160 --> 00:59:48,680
a little chat with him what

1275
00:59:46,280 --> 00:59:52,079
that I never know whether you English

1276
00:59:48,680 --> 00:59:54,839
are serious joking or mad well I'm

1277
00:59:52,079 --> 00:59:56,880
serious this time it's got me down

1278
00:59:54,839 --> 00:59:59,440
yesterday it seemed quite easy

1279
00:59:56,880 --> 01:00:01,400
today it's beyond me you think it'll be

1280
00:59:59,440 --> 01:00:03,559
easy if you tell the police no it won't

1281
01:00:01,400 --> 01:00:05,359
be easy but it's the best way out I've

1282
01:00:03,559 --> 01:00:09,319
been thinking things

1283
01:00:05,359 --> 01:00:12,400
over very well but don't be too

1284
01:00:09,319 --> 01:00:15,920
hasty let me think also I'm not stopping

1285
01:00:12,400 --> 01:00:17,559
you I think much better if I have a

1286
01:00:15,920 --> 01:00:20,640
glass in my hand there's a bell over

1287
01:00:17,559 --> 01:00:20,640
there if you want me

1288
01:00:24,599 --> 01:00:30,200
thanks tell me what is it you have been

1289
01:00:27,520 --> 01:00:33,799
thinking I've been doing some sums in my

1290
01:00:30,200 --> 01:00:35,720
head subtraction and addition I don't

1291
01:00:33,799 --> 01:00:38,160
understand well there were four of us in

1292
01:00:35,720 --> 01:00:42,520
this deal when we started Henry and

1293
01:00:38,160 --> 01:00:44,680
parkon and you and I you can't me as one

1294
01:00:42,520 --> 01:00:46,559
well Parkinson's dead and Henry's dead

1295
01:00:44,680 --> 01:00:50,440
that leaves Just the Two of

1296
01:00:46,559 --> 01:00:53,520
Us I'd just assume be the last are you

1297
01:00:50,440 --> 01:00:55,480
suggesting that I I have anything to do

1298
01:00:53,520 --> 01:00:57,400
with these murders I'm only suggesting

1299
01:00:55,480 --> 01:00:59,680
that somebody is playing rather a nasty

1300
01:00:57,400 --> 01:01:03,440
game do you remember

1301
01:00:59,680 --> 01:01:04,720
this of course I do I gave it to you

1302
01:01:03,440 --> 01:01:07,200
after that share

1303
01:01:04,720 --> 01:01:08,400
deal well strange as it may seem Dench

1304
01:01:07,200 --> 01:01:11,359
found it and returned it to me this

1305
01:01:08,400 --> 01:01:12,720
evening well why shouldn't he he said he

1306
01:01:11,359 --> 01:01:14,640
found it in the room in which Parkinson

1307
01:01:12,720 --> 01:01:16,079
had been murdered but you told me you

1308
01:01:14,640 --> 01:01:17,559
hadn't been there well whether I've been

1309
01:01:16,079 --> 01:01:20,520
there or not I didn't leave my lighter

1310
01:01:17,559 --> 01:01:23,559
there how could D find it if what he

1311
01:01:20,520 --> 01:01:26,240
says is true somebody planted it there

1312
01:01:23,559 --> 01:01:30,160
somebody would like to see me hanged and

1313
01:01:26,240 --> 01:01:34,319
this someone is D well it might be and

1314
01:01:30,160 --> 01:01:37,400
it might not of course it is the story

1315
01:01:34,319 --> 01:01:40,240
about finding it must be a

1316
01:01:37,400 --> 01:01:42,559
lie I

1317
01:01:40,240 --> 01:01:45,680
wonder come

1318
01:01:42,559 --> 01:01:51,359
in your Ang just bring me a white lady

1319
01:01:45,680 --> 01:01:51,359
please you same as usual please har yes

1320
01:01:52,200 --> 01:01:57,920
sir that's OD what is

1321
01:01:56,440 --> 01:02:01,200
now I know I thought it wasn't mine when

1322
01:01:57,920 --> 01:02:03,839
Dench first gave it to me let me see no

1323
01:02:01,200 --> 01:02:06,079
it's no concern of yours old

1324
01:02:03,839 --> 01:02:08,400
boy well perhaps it

1325
01:02:06,079 --> 01:02:10,000
is anyway all I've got to do is to put

1326
01:02:08,400 --> 01:02:11,440
one question in a certain quarter to

1327
01:02:10,000 --> 01:02:12,920
find out who's been trying to FR me and

1328
01:02:11,440 --> 01:02:15,960
that's the man the police are after what

1329
01:02:12,920 --> 01:02:17,359
do you mean to do see horley he'll be

1330
01:02:15,960 --> 01:02:19,520
glad to know I can put him on to the man

1331
01:02:17,359 --> 01:02:23,039
that murdered Parkinson who cares about

1332
01:02:19,520 --> 01:02:25,039
Parkinson I'm tired of his name I see

1333
01:02:23,039 --> 01:02:27,119
you better let the police do their own

1334
01:02:25,039 --> 01:02:29,960
Dirty Work and I tell you I'm going to

1335
01:02:27,119 --> 01:02:31,480
see horley as soon as I can excuse me Mr

1336
01:02:29,960 --> 01:02:33,039

1337

1353
01:03:22,440 --> 01:03:27,119
that confidence Mr H well my money's on

1354
01:03:25,079 --> 01:03:28,880
DCH is the only one that knew his nibs

1355
01:03:27,119 --> 01:03:30,920
was coming here to tea and what with

1356
01:03:28,880 --> 01:03:32,559
that young Madam making eyes at him he

1357
01:03:30,920 --> 01:03:33,839
tell was his to do as he liked him you

1358
01:03:32,559 --> 01:03:36,559
have no right to talk like that about

1359
01:03:33,839 --> 01:03:38,319
Miss Gordon oh so that's the idea you're

1360
01:03:36,559 --> 01:03:40,240
running in the same race are you if you

1361
01:03:38,319 --> 01:03:42,160
can't keep a decent tongue in your head

1362
01:03:40,240 --> 01:03:45,839
you'd better find another hotel no

1363
01:03:42,160 --> 01:03:45,839
offense me Mr whittens no

1364
01:03:47,200 --> 01:03:51,440
offense and nothing you can say will

1365
01:03:49,240 --> 01:03:54,119
make me change my mind is it your final

1366
01:03:51,440 --> 01:03:57,200
word absolutely I'm even prepared to go

1367
01:03:54,119 --> 01:04:00,119

1368
01:03:57,200 --> 01:04:02,480

1371
01:04:12,640 --> 01:04:17,799
jail and I will do a great deal to keep

1372
01:04:15,839 --> 01:04:20,520

1373
01:04:17,799 --> 01:04:22,279

1374
01:04:20,520 --> 01:04:26,680

bill bill what's the matter

1379
01:04:56,210 --> 01:05:53,279

1381
01:05:53,279 --> 01:05:56,880
scream downstairs well I heard one

1382
01:05:54,760 --> 01:05:58,920
upstairs hold him I don't let anybody up

1383
01:05:56,880 --> 01:06:01,079
or down these

1384
01:05:58,920 --> 01:06:02,520
stairs what's happened I don't know I

1385
01:06:01,079 --> 01:06:04,000
heard a screaming by the time I got here

1386
01:06:02,520 --> 01:06:07,760
she apparently fainted and he was like

1387
01:06:04,000 --> 01:06:07,760
that get her out of here quick for she

1388
01:06:08,839 --> 01:06:14,160
recovers is he

1389
01:06:10,720 --> 01:06:14,160
dead I'm afraid

1390
01:06:23,079 --> 01:06:28,359
so B guys it gosh who do you think D it

1391
01:06:26,240 --> 01:06:29,799
kavous well I wouldn't put it past him

1392
01:06:28,359 --> 01:06:31,279
but why would en want to put pric acid

1393
01:06:29,799 --> 01:06:34,200
in his drink well to save his own skin I

1394
01:06:31,279 --> 01:06:35,480
suppose he look after this then ring up

1395
01:06:34,200 --> 01:06:38,599
the local station tell them to send the

1396
01:06:35,480 --> 01:06:38,599
doctor along quick

1397
01:06:46,279 --> 01:06:50,240
right inspector Miss Gordon just told me

1398
01:06:48,920 --> 01:06:51,880
a man came into this room after she

1399
01:06:50,240 --> 01:06:53,480
found Bill what's that she noticed a

1400
01:06:51,880 --> 01:06:54,680
scarf lying on the table just as she

1401
01:06:53,480 --> 01:06:56,039
picked it up this man came in and

1402
01:06:54,680 --> 01:06:58,400
snatched it out of her hand that's all

1403
01:06:56,039 --> 01:07:01,160
she remembers is that so here you better

1404
01:06:58,400 --> 01:07:03,440
come downstairs with

1405
01:07:01,160 --> 01:07:06,039
me Sergeant you can treat these people

1406
01:07:03,440 --> 01:07:08,000
as you like but I'm a man of influence I

1407
01:07:06,039 --> 01:07:10,599
am well known not as well known as you

1408
01:07:08,000 --> 01:07:11,880
will be Mr kavos you'll be on every

1409
01:07:10,599 --> 01:07:14,920
front page and let you do a bit of

1410
01:07:11,880 --> 01:07:17,559
explaining but I know nothing I came

1411
01:07:14,920 --> 01:07:19,400
here tonight to talk with gon I left him

1412
01:07:17,559 --> 01:07:21,760
I came downstairs of course you heard

1413
01:07:19,400 --> 01:07:24,279
screams all over the house no I realized

1414
01:07:21,760 --> 01:07:26,319
I have forgotten my scarf so I went back

1415
01:07:24,279 --> 01:07:29,400
and I found Gordon in the the chair he

1416
01:07:26,319 --> 01:07:32,039
sister by him she screamed I was

1417
01:07:29,400 --> 01:07:34,160
frightened and run away but that doesn't

1418
01:07:32,039 --> 01:07:36,359
explain why you came here tonight to

1419
01:07:34,160 --> 01:07:38,359
have a friendly chat with Gordon I

1420
01:07:36,359 --> 01:07:40,559
happen to know that's not true how do

1421
01:07:38,359 --> 01:07:43,720
you know Alfred told me he heard them

1422
01:07:40,559 --> 01:07:45,160
quarreling what about just when I went

1423
01:07:43,720 --> 01:07:47,240
in with the drinks they were disputing

1424
01:07:45,160 --> 01:07:49,119
about a deal they called it he doesn't

1425
01:07:47,240 --> 01:07:51,400
know what he's talking about yeah but I

1426
01:07:49,119 --> 01:07:53,640
do there were four of you in that deal

1427
01:07:51,400 --> 01:07:55,920
Henry Parkinson Gordon yourself and

1428
01:07:53,640 --> 01:07:58,400
three of them have been murdered only

1429
01:07:55,920 --> 01:07:58,400
you

1430
01:07:58,559 --> 01:08:04,640
remain I didn't do it I will tell you

1431
01:08:02,119 --> 01:08:06,760
the truth the whole truth it'll be very

1432
01:08:04,640 --> 01:08:09,319
unpleasant for you if you don't Gordon

1433
01:08:06,760 --> 01:08:11,000
owed me money he couldn't pay he

1434
01:08:09,319 --> 01:08:13,160
promised to get me some Advan

1435
01:08:11,000 --> 01:08:16,319
information concerning the budget in

1436
01:08:13,160 --> 01:08:17,960
exchange for his debt he planned it all

1437
01:08:16,319 --> 01:08:19,960
but you gave him £200 to have the

1438
01:08:17,960 --> 01:08:22,480
duplicate bag made didn't you but I had

1439
01:08:19,960 --> 01:08:24,239
no idea what the money was for I

1440
01:08:22,480 --> 01:08:26,719
couldn't trust him so I tore the bank

1441
01:08:24,239 --> 01:08:28,279
notes in half he was to have my half and

1442
01:08:26,719 --> 01:08:29,719
he gave me the information you're

1443
01:08:28,279 --> 01:08:33,000
wasting your time in just a minute Mr

1444
01:08:29,719 --> 01:08:34,799
Dench Dench so you are the man who was

1445
01:08:33,000 --> 01:08:38,279
Gordon's enemy what are you talking

1446
01:08:34,799 --> 01:08:40,279
about inspector there is the murderer

1447
01:08:38,279 --> 01:08:42,159
only tonight Gordon told me you try to

1448
01:08:40,279 --> 01:08:44,239
frighten him by saying that you found

1449
01:08:42,159 --> 01:08:45,640
his lighter at Parkinson's shop what's

1450
01:08:44,239 --> 01:08:46,799
that it's a lie when I brought his

1451
01:08:45,640 --> 01:08:48,319
lighter here I was trying to keep him

1452
01:08:46,799 --> 01:08:49,400
out of the mess you made for him but if

1453
01:08:48,319 --> 01:08:50,679
you found the lighter in his shop why

1454
01:08:49,400 --> 01:08:51,640
did you hide it from me because I

1455
01:08:50,679 --> 01:08:52,839
thought Bill had been up to something

1456
01:08:51,640 --> 01:08:54,400
but I knew he wasn't a murderer and I

1457
01:08:52,839 --> 01:08:56,120
wanted to protect Miss Gordon you know

1458
01:08:54,400 --> 01:08:57,679
you're a public menace Mr

1459
01:08:56,120 --> 01:08:59,120
you seem determined to defend one woman

1460
01:08:57,679 --> 01:09:00,560
at every man in the case is killed well

1461
01:08:59,120 --> 01:09:02,799
I have nothing to fear well all I can

1462
01:09:00,560 --> 01:09:06,400
say is you got more courage than sense

1463
01:09:02,799 --> 01:09:08,640
is that the lighter yes and Gordon said

1464
01:09:06,400 --> 01:09:11,839
something very curious about it what was

1465
01:09:08,640 --> 01:09:14,359
that he looked at it closely and then he

1466
01:09:11,839 --> 01:09:18,000
told me that when DCH gave it to him he

1467
01:09:14,359 --> 01:09:20,600
told it was not his did he say why no

1468
01:09:18,000 --> 01:09:23,319
but he said that now he could trace the

1469
01:09:20,600 --> 01:09:26,319
man who left it at the Lea shop did he

1470
01:09:23,319 --> 01:09:26,319
indeed

1471
01:09:27,080 --> 01:09:31,560
did he say anything else about Mr DCH

1472
01:09:29,159 --> 01:09:33,359
yes that they had a quarrel but he could

1473
01:09:31,560 --> 01:09:35,199
not see anymore because at that moment

1474
01:09:33,359 --> 01:09:37,279
the porter brought us our

1475
01:09:35,199 --> 01:09:39,400
drinks you were in Mr Gordon's room

1476
01:09:37,279 --> 01:09:41,440
twice wer so are Mr cavanos was there

1477
01:09:39,400 --> 01:09:42,960
yes sir I took the gentleman's order Mr

1478
01:09:41,440 --> 01:09:44,400
witness mixed the drinks and he gave

1479
01:09:42,960 --> 01:09:46,520
them to me to take up after I'd locked

1480
01:09:44,400 --> 01:09:48,520
up outside do you agree with that

1481
01:09:46,520 --> 01:09:50,759
Alfred's account is correct inspector

1482
01:09:48,520 --> 01:09:52,199
that's the way to give evidence now I

1483
01:09:50,759 --> 01:09:54,080
have one other question to ask Mr

1484
01:09:52,199 --> 01:09:56,920
whittens what did you do when you left

1485
01:09:54,080 --> 01:09:58,760
my office this morning I came back here

1486
01:09:56,920 --> 01:10:00,719
can you verify that yes sir he was on

1487
01:09:58,760 --> 01:10:03,600
his way when I went to catch me boss oh

1488
01:10:00,719 --> 01:10:05,159
then you didn't come back together no I

1489
01:10:03,600 --> 01:10:08,040
had some business to do I'd forgotten

1490
01:10:05,159 --> 01:10:09,719
that I don't know what your business was

1491
01:10:08,040 --> 01:10:11,560
but when you were doing it Parkinson was

1492
01:10:09,719 --> 01:10:12,960
murdered I imagine that at least 2

1493
01:10:11,560 --> 01:10:14,760
million other men were going about their

1494
01:10:12,960 --> 01:10:16,520
business in London at the same time

1495
01:10:14,760 --> 01:10:18,640
that's true but they didn't know

1496
01:10:16,520 --> 01:10:21,600
Parkinson I believe you did I knew him

1497
01:10:18,640 --> 01:10:23,320
well I sent Mr D to him have you been in

1498
01:10:21,600 --> 01:10:25,800
Gordon's room tonight

1499
01:10:23,320 --> 01:10:28,159
no then I take it that nobody but Mr

1500
01:10:25,800 --> 01:10:31,520
kavos and Mr Dench have been there since

1501
01:10:28,159 --> 01:10:33,000
Gordon was killed Mr wits you were here

1502
01:10:31,520 --> 01:10:35,080
when Henry changed the budget bags and

1503
01:10:33,000 --> 01:10:37,560
could have seen the switch you

1504
01:10:35,080 --> 01:10:39,000
afterwards drove him to town but we've

1505
01:10:37,560 --> 01:10:40,480
only your word for it that you dropped

1506
01:10:39,000 --> 01:10:42,679
him at Oxford C and didn't follow him

1507
01:10:40,480 --> 01:10:44,280
and kill him so that's what you think

1508
01:10:42,679 --> 01:10:45,679
also when I was here last night you

1509
01:10:44,280 --> 01:10:48,000
heard me say that I'd found the bag in

1510
01:10:45,679 --> 01:10:49,080
the world sharp didn't you I did now you

1511
01:10:48,000 --> 01:10:50,679
could have drained the petrol from the

1512
01:10:49,080 --> 01:10:52,760
car and attack Sergeant Bingham in order

1513
01:10:50,679 --> 01:10:54,320
to get the knife which being of a very

1514
01:10:52,760 --> 01:10:56,199
unusual pattern could be easily traced

1515
01:10:54,320 --> 01:10:57,960
to Parkinson so far I follow you

1516
01:10:56,199 --> 01:11:00,800
inspector the next thing was to be sure

1517
01:10:57,960 --> 01:11:03,080
of silencing Parkinson and you were on

1518
01:11:00,800 --> 01:11:05,520
your own in London when he was killed

1519
01:11:03,080 --> 01:11:06,920
this is all very interesting tonight

1520
01:11:05,520 --> 01:11:09,080
hearing Gordon say that he could trace

1521
01:11:06,920 --> 01:11:10,400
the man who tried to frame him with this

1522
01:11:09,080 --> 01:11:12,239
you could have killed him as the other

1523
01:11:10,400 --> 01:11:14,800
men had been killed very clever

1524
01:11:12,239 --> 01:11:18,239
deduction inspector but all you've said

1525
01:11:14,800 --> 01:11:21,320
could equally apply to Mr Dench or

1526
01:11:18,239 --> 01:11:23,800
Alfred or even Mr

1527
01:11:21,320 --> 01:11:25,560
H see my name has been brought into this

1528
01:11:23,800 --> 01:11:27,840
inspector I better tell you who I am you

1529
01:11:25,560 --> 01:11:30,360
don't need to you're a private detective

1530
01:11:27,840 --> 01:11:32,480
from the circle agency your usual land

1531
01:11:30,360 --> 01:11:35,400
is divorce and you're known as Keyhole

1532
01:11:32,480 --> 01:11:37,000
Charlie or the corespondent curse and

1533
01:11:35,400 --> 01:11:40,239
what's more you're the fifth man in Mr

1534
01:11:37,000 --> 01:11:42,159
kev's Syndicate oh no I was sent here by

1535
01:11:40,239 --> 01:11:44,199
Mr kevos to keep an eye on Gordon to see

1536
01:11:42,159 --> 01:11:45,719
he didn't do a bit of double crossing

1537
01:11:44,199 --> 01:11:48,560
and if you want a tip from a fellow

1538
01:11:45,719 --> 01:11:50,480
detective only Dench is your man he

1539
01:11:48,560 --> 01:11:52,400
talks a lot about protecting his young

1540
01:11:50,480 --> 01:11:55,239
lady but I'll bet he was trying to

1541
01:11:52,400 --> 01:11:57,480
protect himself I wouldn't bet on that

1542
01:11:55,239 --> 01:11:58,440
if Mr Dench was protecting himself he

1543
01:11:57,480 --> 01:12:00,920
wouldn't have brought the lighter back

1544
01:11:58,440 --> 01:12:02,320
to Gordon he'd have turned it over to me

1545
01:12:00,920 --> 01:12:03,800
I tell you inspector it must have been

1546
01:12:02,320 --> 01:12:06,600
this man he was in the room when Bill

1547
01:12:03,800 --> 01:12:09,000
Gordon died but I didn't kill him I

1548
01:12:06,600 --> 01:12:10,360
believe almost anything Mr cavanos but I

1549
01:12:09,000 --> 01:12:11,960
can't believe he attacked Bingham when

1550
01:12:10,360 --> 01:12:15,159
he couldn't have known we had the

1551
01:12:11,960 --> 01:12:17,840
knife as Mr Holt he didn't know I was

1552
01:12:15,159 --> 01:12:20,600
going to Parkinson but you

1553
01:12:17,840 --> 01:12:22,520
did have you anything else to say if I'd

1554
01:12:20,600 --> 01:12:24,320
been going to kill Parkinson would I

1555
01:12:22,520 --> 01:12:26,360
have gone to the yard and told you about

1556
01:12:24,320 --> 01:12:27,800
him and if I'd been going to kill Gordon

1557
01:12:26,360 --> 01:12:30,280
would I have telephoned you to come down

1558
01:12:27,800 --> 01:12:32,280
here why did you telephone because I

1559
01:12:30,280 --> 01:12:34,040
knew Bill Gordon meant to run away I

1560
01:12:32,280 --> 01:12:36,000
thought it was you who phoned I've been

1561
01:12:34,040 --> 01:12:37,679
waiting for you to say so I'm sorry to

1562
01:12:36,000 --> 01:12:39,239
had to use you to prove that only one

1563
01:12:37,679 --> 01:12:42,440
man could have committed all three

1564
01:12:39,239 --> 01:12:43,840
murders and that man is you watch's that

1565
01:12:42,440 --> 01:12:45,840
every word that I've said to witness

1566
01:12:43,840 --> 01:12:47,320
applies to you you weren't in the

1567
01:12:45,840 --> 01:12:48,480
original Syndicate but you saw Henry

1568
01:12:47,320 --> 01:12:50,360
change the bags thought you might

1569
01:12:48,480 --> 01:12:51,719
benefit and so you killed him it's a lie

1570
01:12:50,360 --> 01:12:53,400
ever since you knew I'd found the knife

1571
01:12:51,719 --> 01:12:54,719
you've been trying to save your neck

1572
01:12:53,400 --> 01:12:56,280
when you left my office you knew I was

1573
01:12:54,719 --> 01:12:58,239
about to go to Parkinson who could tell

1574
01:12:56,280 --> 01:13:00,639
me he'd given you the knife so you kill

1575
01:12:58,239 --> 01:13:02,400
him and tonight when you realize that

1576
01:13:00,639 --> 01:13:04,480
Gordon could TR you by the lighter you

1577
01:13:02,400 --> 01:13:06,440
kill him you're crazy I tell you you're

1578
01:13:04,480 --> 01:13:08,560
wrong Mr Whitten said anyone might have

1579
01:13:06,440 --> 01:13:10,320
done it didn't he mix the drinks and

1580
01:13:08,560 --> 01:13:12,040
wasn't Hal in the bar with them and the

1581
01:13:10,320 --> 01:13:13,080
foreign gentleman up above in the room

1582
01:13:12,040 --> 01:13:14,360
and one of them could have put the

1583
01:13:13,080 --> 01:13:16,040
poison in the Brandy how do you know

1584
01:13:14,360 --> 01:13:17,560
there was poison in the Brandy the other

1585
01:13:16,040 --> 01:13:20,560
men were killed with a knife nobody said

1586
01:13:17,560 --> 01:13:22,600
how Gordon died I thought no you knew

1587
01:13:20,560 --> 01:13:24,120
because you put the poison there so you

1588
01:13:22,600 --> 01:13:25,800
think yourself clever tricking me to say

1589
01:13:24,120 --> 01:13:27,480
in something I didn't mean only because

1590
01:13:25,800 --> 01:13:30,760
I already knew that You' kill these men

1591
01:13:27,480 --> 01:13:32,120
and how did you know from this if you

1592
01:13:30,760 --> 01:13:34,800
look at it closely you'll see that it

1593
01:13:32,120 --> 01:13:36,040
has a luminous dial and plain hands that

1594
01:13:34,800 --> 01:13:38,880
means the glass and hands have been

1595
01:13:36,040 --> 01:13:40,840
broken and new ones put in in the hurry

1596
01:13:38,880 --> 01:13:43,639
evidently the Jeweler had no luminous

1597
01:13:40,840 --> 01:13:45,040
hands in stock You' broken this watch

1598
01:13:43,639 --> 01:13:46,800
and not wanting a around from Gordon you

1599
01:13:45,040 --> 01:13:49,159
had it repaired on the quiet and it was

1600
01:13:46,800 --> 01:13:50,320
in your pocket when you killed Parkinson

1601
01:13:49,159 --> 01:13:52,120
then you had what you thought was a

1602
01:13:50,320 --> 01:13:54,239
brilliant idea to leave it there in

1603
01:13:52,120 --> 01:13:55,600
order to throw suspicion on Gordon it's

1604
01:13:54,239 --> 01:13:57,199
a pack of Lies

1605
01:13:55,600 --> 01:14:00,040
oh well if it is we can easily trace the

1606
01:13:57,199 --> 01:14:02,280
jeer he'll tell us he'll tell you

1607
01:14:00,040 --> 01:14:04,400
nothing for you won't be there to ask

1608
01:14:02,280 --> 01:14:06,520
him I took this from the British in the

1609
01:14:04,400 --> 01:14:09,000
troubles in Dublin and faith I let you

1610
01:14:06,520 --> 01:14:12,560
British have it back and if you try to

1611
01:14:09,000 --> 01:14:19,320
stop me we'll all go

1612
01:14:12,560 --> 01:14:22,900
[Music]

1613
01:14:19,320 --> 01:14:39,719
together stay where you are

1614
01:14:22,900 --> 01:14:43,760
